Automotive pet peeve of the day!!

I just love when I am pumping my gas I am forced to stand there & listen to the commercials & adds on the little TV screen that's on all the gas pumps now.

ho428 01-11-2017 12:31 PM

Mine is when they don't keep receipt paper in the pump and I have to go inside for one.

O.M.G.
The local Chevron has those. 4 pumps, screens on both sides, so 8 different screens. The sound comes to my ear from the random pumps like a bad stereo sound mix.

Mill67 01-11-2017 12:56 PM

Most of ours here have a mute button, I always mute them!

72projectbird 01-11-2017 01:37 PM

I hate those damn things! I don't need to be entertained while pumping gas!

My automotive pet peeve? Cars that don't use keys anymore. Can someone tell me why anything short of a race car needs a push button start? I hate them!

Chris65LeMans 01-11-2017 02:26 PM

When I drive my Pontiac, I don't need to listen to the ads - there are too many people wanting to talk about the car.

With my daily driver, I'll set the "auto" switch and walk away to avoid that stuff.

They are always playing "Jimmy Fallon" clips on the pumps out here. Either they are picking his worst jokes, or that guy isn't very funny.

sts 01-11-2017 02:43 PM

Talking about cars while gassing up the 9. A guy about my age told me. “Most people don't know this. Henry Ford didn't invent the automobile, he invented the automobile assembly line.”

The pearls of wisdom gained while pumping gas and listening!

Youth is brilliant: While driving the car in a parade, an 8 year old boy hollered out, “Nice Firebird!” I said thanks while his buddy asked him how he knew it was a Firebird? “It says so on the car.” Why can't people our age figure out these kinds of things?

No, Henry Ford improved the automobile assembly line. And that didn't know it either. ;)

"The modern assembly line and its basic concept is credited to Ransom Olds, who used it to build the first mass-produced automobile, the Oldsmobile Curved Dash." I knew it was Ransom Olds, but to confirm the above is taken from here....

Mine is when a young person is pumping gas, car shut off but stereo on full blast.

nashcar 01-11-2017 04:37 PM

My best/worst one is when a guy pulls up with his girl and I'm filling my Z/28 and says his friend had one just like it only it was a convertible.

Jimmy Fallon is just another one of the young, know it all " Richards", although not quite as annoying as most of the others. The young one's make Johnny Carson look even better than he was..lol

BINGO!

Just as bad, the person who walks up "Hi, I'm out of gas, and I need to get home, and I have no money", and they're driving something nicer than most people have....

FirebirdHank 01-11-2017 06:26 PM

My pet peeve, convertibles with the top down and every window up!
Worse than that, top down with only quarter windows up!!!

locomotivebreath 01-11-2017 07:08 PM

Here in Kentucky , I don't know if I'm more annoyed by the fart can Honda or the hick with the fart dump diesel / semi stack sticking out of the bed - at least the Honda kid doesn't belch black smoke or have a fish hook on his real tree hat ! 3rd up is Harley's with drag pipes .

RocktimusPryme 01-11-2017 07:16 PM

The C6 I bought a little while ago straight up hates the newer style gas nozzles with the vapor guards on them. Most other cars I've had would sometimes trip the auto pump deal. The corvette I pretty much just have to stand there and hold it.

66sprint6 01-11-2017 07:32 PM

All of the taxi cabs filling up when gas is 2 cents a litre cheaper in my neighborhood. It seems to happen whenever I'm low on fuel. I've seen them fight over spots in line to save 1.20 with their 60L tanks.

carson is 100x funnier than fallon or any one of those other late night goofs/time wasters on tv. 300 channels and nothing on. give me football or the westerns channel, sports news or a movie. thanks.

I HATE that. I put the nozzle on lock and walk away so I don't have to be bombarded with that crap......

My64GTO 01-11-2017 09:04 PM

Slide your credit card, select your grade, insert the gas nozzle, then freeze your ass off and WAIT 5 minutes till they reset the pump...

Mercedes invented it because of carjackings. That way you have the key on you, you get carjacked & within 10 miles or so the car will shut off when it comes to a stop because its always making sure the key is in the car while running. Other car company's only saw the start button and said thats cool lets do that too.

I used to get that when I filled up in Benton Harbor, MI. Sometimes just walking to my car from a regular store.
About 15 years ago, I was filling up in South Bend just below the state line, and this dude pulls up on the opposite side of the pump from me. He walks over to me and delivers the familiar song & dance but tells me he lives in Indianapolis. I stop what I'm doing and walk around to the back of his car to check the license plate: It has a 71 prefix. Me: "umm, sorry buddy"
He quietly gets back in his car and leaves. LOL

SRR 01-12-2017 01:16 AM

I work at a parts counter. My peeve is the number of people who don't know what they drive or pile all their crap on the counter only to say Oh, I forgot my wallet at home.

Kinda embarrassing being in church for an hour with the car key in your pocket and the preacher announces someone left their car running. And yep its yours!

There were no keys for cars "back in the day".

One of my favorite features of my latest car purchase is the fact it's keyless.

No digging for the keys to open the doors or the trunk. Just walk up to the car and push the button and doors are unlocked or trunk opens. When you leave the car, no need to dig out your key fob to lock the doors, just press the button on the door when you shut it.

No inserting the keys into the ignition. Just jump in and push the button.

Really, it's a much more convenient system. It did take me a week to "adjust", but I love it now.

Bob Rutledge 01-12-2017 07:55 AM

I really like my 2014 Ram 1500. The one thing I don't like is the shift "knob". When in a hurry and I back out I start turning up the radio, the fan, seems like I turn everything before I get to the knob to put it in drive..

Me too. In this day & age, we are marketed to darn near 24 hours a day. I can't stand being treated as a life support system for my wallet. I mute whenever possible.

Todays pet peeve,,,, Yesterday the car in front of me, going down the on ramp to I-10,,going 35 Mph,,,,I-10 traffic flowing at 70+ Mph,,,, this idiot stops at the bottom of the on ramp & was waiting for a break in traffic so he can merge!!!!!!!!!!!

Folks like that makes ya wish sometimes that you had a cowcatcher on the front of your car. :)

Greg Reid 01-12-2017 09:39 AM

My automotive pet peeve is people who stop for a flashing yellow signal. I got chewed out by a lady once who was on the 'red' side of the flashing light intersection because I did not stop for my yellow like everyone else was doing. She literally pulled her car out in front of me to block me and started yelling at me...."YOU STOP! YOU STOP!"
Our gas station just seems to show weather and sports news on those screens and the volume is pretty low. I actually listen to them sometimes but I can hardly hear it from cars coming and going.

67drake 01-12-2017 09:40 AM

In no certain order-
Headlights that stay on after I get out of the car
Interior lights that stay on after I get in or out of the car
My wife's Toyota has no key lock on the passenger door or trunk-WHY!
A radio that I need to take a night school class at the local tech college to use
I like bench front seats,do they make them anymore?

My peeve is similar to this but a little different. I have noticed that a lot of younger drivers make no attempt to merge into the traffic flow, they expect the traffic flow to adjust to them and let them in. I have no issue with trying to accommodate merging traffic in heavy traffic, but they should at least make an effort to merge properly. Maybe they aren't being taught the art of merging?

geeteeohguy 01-12-2017 11:31 AM

Metering lights at the end of freeway on ramps. The whole concept of an on ramp is to gain speed to match the speed of traffic for a safe merge. Metering lights cause accidents. While we're at it, another pet peeve is lack of character. Too many bozos walking around out there with an entitlement attitude that think they own the world simply because they exist. They feel they have the right to behave badly and not be called on it. Hogwash.

Sirrotica 01-12-2017 11:39 AM

Since to original post is about C stores how about the people that pull up to the pumps, fill their cars up by paying at the pump. Then they leave the car in front of the pump to go inside to get their snacks. GRRRRRRRR:mad:

Never paying attention that there are other people are waiting to get to the pumps to get their fuel.

Greg Reid 01-12-2017 11:52 AM

Just thought of another one...People that turn their emergency flashers on because it's RAINING.

FirebirdHank 01-12-2017 01:17 PM

People in the left lane doing exactly the speed limit even though people in the right (slow) lane are passing them up.

People who get right on your back bumper even though you have cars in front of you and are passing cars in the other lane.

The guy who has to get in front of you to take the next exit even though there is no one behind you.

Other drivers in general!

Cost savings. Saves the piece price of the lock cylinder (and associated hardware) at the locations other than driver door.

Agree! I almost have to pull off the road to adjust the radio or heater.

Answer the phone while it's hooked up to the truck radio? It's not happening.

I see this except they don't pay at the pump.

I usually can pull up, fuel up and be gone by the time they come back out.

Hands free phone systems that tie into the sound system. They are a convenience but I hate it when there is something that I am really trying to hear on the radio and just at that moment, a phone call comes into my wife's phone.

This brings me to my next pet peeve:

Where did the buttons go? I don't hate touch screens, but I like my buttons. Why does everything have to be a damn touch screen?

Not only that, but why does every car need a damn entertainment system in the dash? It makes it incredibly hard to change the head unit down the road. You're basically screwed if the factory entertainment system controls the HVAC or other systems. I don't want a damn tablet in the dash!

That's why the newest car I own is a 1969!!

Had a call at work this morning. One of the fork lifts wouldn't start. Funny how they run better when you put Diesel in the tank!

Glad it isn't just me that dislikes these things. How is a driver supposed to safely adjust the heater, radio, air conditioner, DEFROSTER, etc.!!!

And along the same lines, why cannot the computer that generates the icons generate text? The only way to figure out what all those politically correct icons mean is to use Google!!! Would be nice if there were a setting in "settings" to allow the computer to generate text, and then a submenu to allow different languages. Depending on what source you believe, either the Sumerians or the Egyptians devised pictographs or hieroglyphics about 4000 years before the birth of Christ. So in 6000 years we have progressed from hieroglyphics to icons ;)

We now even have a "Mayhem" insurance commercial about these things!

Jon.

I love the keyless entry and push button start. I also installed keyless entry on my front door. Don't have to mess with keys anymore.

Sirrotica 01-13-2017 09:09 PM

My ignition lock is worn out on my 93 K3500 so I don't need a key to start it, don't have to mess with keys anymore either.............:)

Even has a way that it's disabled because the glow plug relay is wired to a push button on the dash. I doubt anyone could figure out the combination to start it. The truck is so ugly no one would be looking to steal it anyway..............LOL

GT182 01-13-2017 10:36 PM

Jon, not only buttons but toggle switches too. There no feeling like throwing a toggle switch to turn on the headlights, heater, or anything else you can turn on and off. Even that toggle switch under the dash to turn off the brake lights. ;)

Stuckinda60s 01-14-2017 11:39 PM

My pet peeve is the rear wipers with a power-on switch instead of a momentary push button. Being controlled by a switch instead of a relay means I get into my wife's Acadia and notice the rear wiper running even though it hasn't rained in three days.

She's not the only one, though, I'll forget to turn it off myself, sometimes.

tooski 01-15-2017 02:34 AM

Drivers who come up behind you and tailgate instead of passing when they can. I even slow down a bit to allow them to pass on a long straight stretch no cars coming. Still tailgat n refuse to pass. Arrrgh.

Don57 01-15-2017 03:15 PM

One of my biggest pet peeve automotive related is............people who don't move over far enough in left-hand turning lanes! Ahhhhh! It drives me nuts! You are blocking both lanes. Having your a## stuck out in my lane is not helping the flow of traffic.

gtomann67 01-15-2017 07:15 PM

People who think the middle lane on a 5 lane is a driving lane and will drive in it for a 1/4 mile at 25 mph not knowing it is for merging into traffic
