I finally hit a milestone tonight. I have a rolling chassis......thanks to the help of my daughter.

As I like to say, you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Very nice! I am just about there .... side tracked with the engine right now.

Looks great and some quality time with your kid to boot.

The best part of all this.....is when the kids help. They will remember that a long time from now just as I remember 30 years ago when my Dad brought this GTO home.

Hopefully I will have the engine in the frame this weekend. Took the heads to the shop to have them cleaned up. Waiting on a gasket set, then I'll paint it to look pretty. I want the engine in the frame so I can tighten up the suspension and then start the body work. Need that weight in there for that.

So you set the engine in the frame with no tranny? I might have to do that too, how well does it sit there? I assume you have to hold the back up with something?

I also plan on assembling the entire rolling chassis with engine if possible before dropping the body back down.

I had the jack under the oil pan to level it out til tonight

Awesome stuff and love the fact their helping the old man. It will make the whole thing more special when ripping it to prom or taking it out for a joy ride when you & your better half are out on a vacation. :) Seriously though, its hard to get kids involved todays day and age let alone everyones schedules..cheers on the good work and not only on the car but being a great dad.
P/S where did you get the car rack??

I made the rotisserie myself. I'll be dropping the body on the frame soon, then selling the rotisserie

Any info on the rotisserie? Brand, price ... are you happy with it? Can't decide whether to buy one or build one.

I built it from scratch. I made it so it could fit a variety of cars because I knew I was going to sell it later

I wouldn't change anything g if I did it again. I have 8 ton ram jacks on each end and 10" wheels that roll easily in and out of the garage with the car on it. Each weld was a triple pass mig. I never extended it to its full length so I don't know what that measurement is but it's made so that if you had to, you could buy a longer connecting piece on the bottom to stretch it out. I'm will to say it would handle a good number of muscle cars. I've had my GTO spun 360 on this one.
I'd sell it for $500

Okay, Im fine with that. Broken down will it fit in a pick-up and or whats the longest piece? Im thinking I'd like to try to reach out of my comfort zone on this one.

It will all fit in a pickup broken down. You may have a piece sticking over the tailgate, but I just strapped it down. I've had this in my truck when I moved.

More progress pics. Found a little rust in the bottom rear of the drivers door. Quick patch job there

Have about 8 hours in the trunk lid.

Test fitting the door and fender. I like to hang them to keep them off the floor or standing up against the wall

That makes me feel a little better as I am at 15 years. :D I went on a restoration hiatus after my kids where born & other things in life got very busy.
Now things are slowing back down a little & I am back at mine on a regular basis.

what color/s will your car be? original factory color, or something else? other than some of the updated driveline stuff I see on yours, we are building pretty much the same car.

Same boat here bud. I started this when my kids were very little. Now they are 14 and 15 and not doing any sports. So now I have a bunch of time on my hands.

I'm going with the original color....verdoro green. I wanted to paint it red but my daughter said absolutely not....LOL

I painted the body & panels about 18 months ago. One thing I can tell you is every paint mfg has a completely different version of the 67-68 verdoro green. I bought a half pint from several mfg's & sprayed test panels. I swear they were not even in the same color chart. it's crazy as heck. I ended up going with PPG Global. it was dang near exact to the backside of a trunk lid that I had with original paint on it. Coverage is very good & I was able to cover everything with 3 Qts (bought a gallon) 1:1 reduction so I sprayed about 1.5 gallons of base.

Thanks for that tip about PPG Global. I'll keep that in mind. Hopefully, I'll be laying down some paint in the spring

Once you get over the pricing shock of Global, you will like it if you go that route. I have zero regrets. Too bad I tossed my spray out cards, I would mail one too you. I'll look just in case tho, but I am pretty sure I tossed them all.

what was the build date & plant your car came from?

I'm not sure of the build date. Was there a Baltimore plant? I think that rings a bell of where it was built, but can't remember 100%

date should be on the trim tag, upper left side. vin has the plant iirc, not sure what digit it is though. would be interesting to compare things as you go. ;)

I'll check it out tonight when I epoxy the fender and valence.

Heading off to work ,but took a quick peek mine again. its 01A first week in January, "P" in the 7th vin for Pontiac Michigan plant.

I had the same issues with PPG for the Verdoro on my 69's. In fairness to them I have two 69's with original Verdoro paint and they are very different.

But I've had a hell of a time with PPG on my 2+2 (Canadian model but they used the American Pontiac colors). That car is Burgundy and my poor body guy forgot to have me approve color samples. We called the paint supplier and they mixed up an extra pint to see if they had made a mixing mistake but it came back identical. It is way off and after some calls to PPG directly it is obvious that there formula is completely wrong. It is also obvious that they couldn't give a s***.

The photo shows the very large color chips from the dealer paint album and it matches beautifully with the original paint in the jams. I took the pic on the hood of the car showing the new paint. It has way too much "orange" and not enough "purple". We are repainting it this week after two months of screwing around with PPG to no avail.

We finally did a custom blend. What is so frustrating about how PPG treated this is that I absolutely love their product. It just works great, very forgiving and my oldest application of the paint dates to 2005 and the paint has held up beautifully, with zero deterioration.

I agree North. Today, PPG no longer makes the color in Deltron. Just std Omni & Global. The two colors are worlds apart. In fact, I would say in general Omni base pretty much stinks (insert stronger word).... Coverage is terrible & its not a good match. Omni Plus, however is a good covering paint, but they don't have a formula for verdoro in the plus line. so with PPG, its either Omni or Global. But with Global, you have to buy it without even trying to understand why its priced the way it is.... Its crazy expensive.

This is something I hope I never have to do again. What a pain in the a$$.

Did you ever get a chance to look at your wheel wells? Mine are painted & ready for install so I am not going to buy something else. its more out of curiosity if yours are the same as mine. Mine also had 2 extra mounting holes that I welded up.

On your hood, do you have the topside bodywork done already? I found it hard to keep overspray from entering the underside when painting. So I did all the prep on the underside, including final sanding. Then after painting body color, I sanded off the overspray & painted the underside. Worked out pretty well. The only single regret was I wish I would have forced seam sealer in-between the hood skin & underside panel (left & right side) not so much you can see it, but enough to keep stuff out of there. Water gets in-between during color sanding. Minor deal, but I would have done that if I had a do-over. I seam sealed every other panel, doors, trunk lid, etc. not sure why I didn't do it on the hood.

I also sprayed it with two guns. I had my SRI dialed in to spray in between the hood braces. Made life a little easier. So hard to get paint between those panels & its fairly easy to see in there. If your installing hood insulation, might not be a big deal though?
