Ouch, brand new GT 500 with a engine knock.
https://youtu.be/sG95h_I5xLA
How much are these cars? |
Ford will be all over that clip, hope that not a dealer posting it.
|
Hand built... with pride?

On the flipside, at least GM waits about 10,000 miles for their engine noises to start. |
Video removed.

That’s probably an $80k car?
I mean things happen and we don’t know the back story but looks bad |

With the commentary, it didn't sound like they were the owner(s)?
More like someone with a vendetta? |
Man the things I saw people do to new cars when I worked at car dealerships was crazy.

A friend of mine was a Mopar dealer mechanic back in the Hemi muscle car days. The stories he has told me are priceless.

One of the worst I heard of ( but never saw) was at a friends dodge/Chrysler dealer in the 90’s. Make ready guys would put the water hose up the exhaust pipe of a neon, wait a second and then floor it so it would shoot one giant burst of water out.

Wow, that would be several checkpoints that it would have had to go through, and then they were driven out from assembly... wow, just wow. |
From an ex Chevy service mgr. New S/S 396 Chevelle with what sounded like a rod knock. Decision made to go run the living hell out of it and then warranty the engine when it blew. Came back sounding great. Sold as new.

In the early 70s, my dad bought a late 60s Chevrolet four door sedan to tow his small camper at a dealer's auction. It always had a rattle or thumping sound coming from one corner of the car. He got into a minor accident, and insurance paid to have the bumper and rear quarter panel fixed. He told the body shop to look for the source of the noise.
A few days later, he got a call to come see the car, the body shop found the source of the noise. While the car was being assembled, somebody put a glass Coke botle into the rear and then welded the quarter panel over it. |

Looks like the guy lost his job over this video
Chris Silverman Thanks for stealing this video from my Facebook page, and helping it go viral. I lost my job of 21 years for this. Greatly appreciated. THEDEVILSDEMON 1 day ago (edited) That was probably the worst decision you made in your life taking a video like this and posting it to Facebook. Not smart man Chris Silverman 22 hours ago Yes, it probably was. And thanks to great humans like you, I got screwed. THEDEVILSDEMON 22 hours ago (edited) @Chris Silverman take the fault like a man. You make a mistake you own up to it. This one cost you your career. It's nobodies fault but your own. You posted a video you shouldn't have on social media. We both know there is a privacy setting on Facebook right? If it wasn't supposed to be seen by 902927644758696736252 people on Facebook you should have prevented that Chris Silverman 19 hours ago Oh I own up to it, but I never expected it to be stolen off my page by a guy that probably has never had a real job, and lives in mommy's basement. Scumbag. THEDEVILSDEMON 19 hours ago @Chris Silverman you're great at insults. Maybe you should try being a comedian next 😂 atom atom 16 hours ago Chris. I was the guy from Detroit that showed up to look at the engine. You were leaving when I was looking at it. I really felt bad for you... I hope you were able to find another job at another dealership. Take care bud.. EclipseInID 2017 12 hours ago Chris Silverman You have GOT to be kidding with those outrageous insults. Textbook projection here, YOU screwed up, NOT anyone else. Have you never used the internet in your life?? I mean, just dumb. Don't go around insulting others for your mistakes, it makes you look incredibly stupid and childish. |
He put it out there for all to see, including insolent comments. Now he's paying for his indiscretion.

Personally I’m getting tired of people losing their careers over one bad decision. Punishment doesn’t fit the crime.
This is coming from someone that almost got fired for singing along to a rap song. Hey- I grew up on Biggy and MasterP too!!! |
Here's one...
This guy posted this car earlier for 99,000.00. Super rare '77 Chevelle SE. Now he wants you to lend him 20,000.00 so that he can fix it up. It's guaranteed, in his mind, because after it's fixed up, maybe he feels that it will be worth 200,000.00.
They should have a convention where all of these wackos get together and talk about their rare and highly valuable cars. We could have the guy with the '70 Firebird WT5, that guy with the prototype Firebird (or Camaro, I can't remember) and any other person that has decided on their own that they have some super rare and valuable "one of one" car. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars...eed/1482011985 |
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes..
|
OOPS , posted in the wrong section...supposed to be in epic Craigslist ad section. Sorry about that.

Not sure what the big deal is. There are occasional issues with almost all new cars. I would think that they would be more prevalent in higher performance, hand built cars. Warranty will cover it- if not for the poorly thought out decision of this tech to post the video, no one but the guys involved would have ever even known.
|
Could grossly devalue the car as most likely, Ford will replace the engine, not repair it.

A competing dealership, with a brain, should see past the mistake and snap this guy up. Experienced techs are tough to find and keep.
|
This guy was a service writer? Hardly what I would consider a "career". That is unless you have a very low esteem of yourself. Service writers and parts pushers are one notch above lot boy. Nothing to get all boo hoo about. I'm sure he'll get another job at some other dealership or perhaps a WalMart auto service center.
|
I couldn't see the video but please help me understand. Someone posted on the net a bad motor, then got fired for posting and then blames the world!! I dont get it. Then again I dont get why facebook even exists? Honestly I dont really care what people are eating for dinner, where they spent their vacation or if their kids graduated.

He shared a video of a brand new GT500 slightly making fun of the fact that a brand new zero mile car was in the service bay with an obvious knock; He apparently initially posted this on facebook, but someone scooped it, and put it on youtube; apparently said youtube video was seen by someone at the dealership and then he was let go. He was mad (it was quoted here) at the guy who "stole" his video and put it on youtube - but he fully accepted shortsightedness at sharing the video to start off. It's kinda like the guy who posted a video of a brand new super low mile 2011 chevy cruze which had the steering wheel fall off... now that was a SUPER funny scenario! |
If the customer made and posted the video, they going to fire a customer? I'm on the private ford tech facebook page and saw it the other day when it was posted. No vin was shown so don't understand the big deal really, because the customer saw it also ? He must have known it was his from the dealer posting it. . This guy shouldn't have any problems finding work at another dealer.

I have never, ever, in my life, seen any product where every single example ever manufactured was perfect.
There could be 1000 videos of tire smoking burnouts by beautiful performing cars .... no one cares ... if there is one video of a car with a problem ... it's obviously junk, from a junk manufacturer and everything they ever made, or will make for the rest of eternity is junk .... that's the typical response in the world of the interwebs. It's a dog eat dog world out here :) I'd bet the catastrophic failure rates for 60's Pontiacs was WAY higher than modern cars. |

The guy who got fired signed a media agreement , so its his fault for doing that. It was the customer that threw a big fit over it.

conceded? Still, it sounds like he's learned his lesson. If he's even halfway a decent tech he should have already landed another gig (hopefully at a much nicer dealership). People forget it's the World Wide Web. In hindsight, he really should've showed his friends that video in person (and rotated his phone 90°) |

C'mon people, just say NO to vertical video!!! |

The car in question had a piece of cam chain hitting the cover I was told by a Ford tech. This is not a big deal if fixed before it causes damage. Car was not missing.

I was in shock at how it could happen. I have understood that there was a holding area at the end of the production line which would have quarantined any cars with observed issues - I would think that a severe miss would have warranted quarantine. But even before that, before the engine left the engine plant, it would have been assembled, then test run; If the engine was assembled during shift change, and a rod/slug were missed, wouldn't it have been caught when it was test run on propane??! I have read of many the problems these cars could have had when built, but it was this singular example which seems to encapsulate so many opportunities for an issue to have been identified with the engine... such a huge failure for all checkpoints, that it's utterly astounding. |
Once had a 3.8L Plymouth van for new car prep. Had a missfire that gave me a hard time. Lower compression in one cylinder(15 lower) than other cylinders. Turn out it had 5 3.8L rods and one 3.3L rod installed. Factory screw up but we didn't call the newspaper. (no facebook in 1990)
|
/\ that's an interesting screw up!
I take it the crank ends were the same, and that it was just a shorter rod? |
