What will it make?
Time to play what will it make (im putting the thread in street section because it will see quite a bit of street use)
4.250 stroke 4.380 bore 11:1 pump gas Wide port e-heads ported by Butler touched up by SD flow [email protected] 2.250in 1.74ex (bought used). Used ported Victor (somewhat matches heads) 1150 carb setup for pump gas 269-276 .750 112l/s cam 2 1/8 headers. Hope to have it on dyno soon'ish |
750 Hp with similar torque numbers at least.

What do you mean by saying that the intake somewhat matches the heads?
I could deal with the interface at the flange being somewhat smaller since that is a straight run and it does not even take the area of a wide port to flow 370 cfm, but you for sure need a good amount of added port area from the point in the manifold where the runners turn hard and from that point on up to the intersect of the runner and plenum. I going to go with a what I think is a generous 770 hp , especially in light of only having 11 to 1 compression. |
There is power to be had by deliberately mismatching the intake runners at the gasket flange on certain combinations.

Ordered pistons Jan 17th, got them yesterday. Just crazy. Now just need to balance it and assemble it.

Taking way longer than I expected. But short block is going together. Heads are just need assembled and they'll be ready. There is a light at the end of the tunnel finally.
Once this one gets done then we'll start on the big Tiger2 headed engine for Drag Week competition |

Looks like a great combination, should be very responsive and will make excellent power. I guess 815 HP @ 6800 and 705 TQ @ 5000-5200 tested with 91 octane on a day that has decent air.

Been a while but getting pretty close now. Waiting on pushrods and then top-end will go on. Compression is right at 11.1:1 so should cruise nicely on 92 octane. Then dyno time.

Leak is where we drilled an oil return. Why on earth water is there is beyond me.

Maybe pushed it a little to far placing the hole low enough to get every drop of oil out. Threads go all the way to spring pad.
What is the fix ? Welding that hole up and placing the return further forward between the springs ? |

Just tapped the hole deeper and ran the fitting in further to cover the hole.
Sadly we only got about 1min of idling in before we found the issue (which good, saved the bearings). |
run couple of the AC Delco radiator pellets thru the engine.We do it on EVERY engine will build on the startups.Tom

Sounds like a good repair. Does seem awfully close to hit water though. Figure Chevy head bolts go into water and the sealant works on them. If you take a 409 head for screw in rocker studs you had better use it too.
