Well, it's a Jim Mott restoration. The car will be a perfect, top shelf restoration. The only decisions here are is it what YOU want, and how much are you willing to pay. Not my favorite colors, but I am in the minority. That combo seems to be very popular within the hobby.

Agree with the above. Have known Jim Mott for years and his restos are top notch. Has a good parts supplier also, ME.

Looking at the PHS docs, I can’t find the Engine unit number. Did the docs for 65 cars not have the engine unit number, or am I just missing it?!?

I don't think they started that until '68 or possibly '67.
The car that started me loving GTOs was a gold '65 hardtop owned by a neighbor when I was 11 or 12 years old...and the one linked to here is a beauty!

LOL, I just noticed ericisback is just up the road from me. Quite the collection there... EUN numbers on PHS didn't start until 68 I believe. Maybe some 67's depending on the plant.

No EUN in the PHS, but it does appear on the Protectoplate.

The only nit I can pick is the splitter location does not look right to me.

They look like they are angled down a bit much.

1) The Dual Exhaust Splitters were added, as they are not on the PHS and installation is off, not like factory.

Several other options were added that are not on the PHS.
2) Car was originally built with Standard hub caps (dog dish), not Rally Wheels.
3) Also this car came with white wall tires, not Red line tires.
4) Instrument panel pad.
5) Mirror, outside LH.

Extremely nice restoration, but if this car were judged at MCACN it would lose lots of points from all the added options.

60sstuff Have you ever had a car invited to MCACN? I have had my cars judged at MCACN. My Black and white 65 scored 991 out of 1000. I can tell you from first hand experience this car would score amazingly. MCACN judging is no where as hard as GTOAA and this car has already been shown there. Did you know 62BV (RIP) won best Pontiac at MCACN, there was not one thing on his car that was same as the PHS. BTW, when the person that restored this car goes to MCACN he is usually asked to be one of the judges for Pontiac cars.

Answer is no, as I only deal with Unrestored Factory Original cars, not restored cars.

That car looks like a million bucks! And it only took $250k+ to get there!

Very interesting to see actual restoration costs broken down on a high end resto like this.

Below is comment from Jim Mott regarding MCACN and GTOAA judging standards and also splitter location. One other thing I do have Hurst wheels for the car but we did not show it at GTOAA with hurst wheels, because they will deduct points for Hurst wheels. MCACN will not.

I am a judge for MCACN and GTOAA. Both MCACN and GTOAA accept options that are added to a restored GTO as long as they are correct for the year and installed correctly.

As to splitter length-the location is not adjustable. The splitter bracket determines the location. Only one reference was ever supplied by Pontiac for splitters. I have provided a photo of it. NO dimension for the extended length is provided. The stainless sections are not acknowledged in the factory drawing. Current reproduction splitters are 1 inch longer than originals.

Attached is reference and also picture of a factory original splitter car. I do believe its the angle of the pictures that is throwing people off.

At 90G with 18 hours to go.

Day 1: Remove RH wiper arm and reinstall. Probably
won't see rain, but once you see it you can't unsee it

Day 3: Oversized mudflaps to hide the exhaust splitters.
Might need different tailpipes (Gardner?) to get rid of

I never really liked the splitters they used in 64 65. leaf blowers

Car needs chrome sidepipes , chrome ladder bars , Hurst wheels , and take the top off

8/02/64 was the last date shown for '64.

August 2nd was a Sunday, so the last full week of production would be the last week of July (07E, I presume on the cowl tag).

These are from Gunnell's Standard book of Pontiac. It doesn't say what plant so I assume these are specific to the home plant in Pontiac, Michigan.

Yes - '65 GTO and '65 model year.

8/19/65 would be the last day.

I only have a few cowl tags in my collection but an "08B" popped right up. It has a high body number which would indicate August of '65.

I think that is the body carrier # that moves it to the line to get married with the frame.

Great news , and much congrats on the ownership !

Mostly that number is referred to as the body buck/jig fixture that's used at Fisher.
I have taken that to mean it was used as they framed up a body as it was built from single pieces of sheet metal into a complete shell / hull .

Correct. The cart in the body shop had some fixturing built in.

The cart through trim up until body drop was simply a carrier that the completed body rode on (no fixturing).

The specific fixture was noted as an aid in problem resolution. If there was a build problem that could be tracked back to a specific fixture then that could help solve the problem.
