I was driving my 72 yesterday and heard a pop then a strong smell of fuel.

I think the fuel line to the throttle body broke.

as a repeat victom of fire loss, I am really sorry to learn of this. glad you are ok. In your opinion- would it have helped if you had a portable fire extinguisher? I carry one, esp when traveling. Hoping you are well insured

I have insurance but not enough to cover all that i put into it. Im going to pull the drivetrain out and sell it.

That pop was the fuel lighting off , the fuel leak started a few seconds before that pop.

Yes I'm fine but sick to my stomach every time I see it. All the time and money. Yes it was rubber efi line.

I am very sad to hear of this episode.
Given a few of us are running transplanted motors or aftermarket EFI perhaps you can please answer a few questions regarding this rubber line? Did this line have something like AN ends? What type of rubber line was it? How long was it there? I myself had two issues with fuel lines. First was the original lines in my 71 to the liquid/vapor separator swelled and leaked due to our lovely ethanol crap gas. The second was the Russell AN to push lock adapter failed under pressure - a known issue with their connector. |

The shell might not be that bad? From your pic it looks like it may be good enough for like a race car?

I was thinking that the steel structure looks to be intact; Surely it’s a better starting point than many of the rust buckets being put back together by people like myself. |
this just makes me sick looking at it. Who is your insurance carrier? I would really like to know how they handle this. Modified cars and especially cars that are raced are a problem for them. I did something similar to a Camaro and was told to remove the headers, non-stock intake carb and fuel lines before the adjuster showed up. Worked out for me and my car was eventually made whole again. Best of luck to you.

The roof is warped pretty bad. Still waiting on the insurance company. Probably won't here anything until Tuesday.

Well the insurance company got back to me last night and said my car was a total loss. Lol. Now I have to wait and see how much I have to pay to keep it

John: politely asking how your fuel hose were rigged. I know it is still quite raw but as in FAA air worthiness directives you may save others from the pain if we can learn from your tragedy.
