1969 data tag

1 Attachment(s)
Pretty loaded 350 2 bl car. Taken delivery of in late January 1969. Might send for phs not sure if I'm going to try and save it or pss the parts on to some other cars.
Not 100 on the tag data for the vinyl roof (it is faded and very weathered almost looks like snake skin at this point),
Assuming it's gold or parchment?
Car is espresso brown w gold interior.
Lots of amazing options do the tag codes indicate an option "bundle?"
Thanks in advance

johnta1 11-05-2025 08:44 PM

The car is Expresso Brown with dark gold top. (or dark fawn)
Standard Gold interior.

No option codes like earlier cars (64 etc)

mysticmissle 11-05-2025 09:02 PM

This car has or was born with:
Pwr steering
Pwr drum brakes
Pwr windows
Pwr seat
Pwr antenna
Ac and rear defrost and soft ray
Tilt wheel
Posi and turbo 400
Auto console on floor
Clock
Believe original motor is 350/2bbl by code and 47 heads
Pretty unusual car and it's rough but except the antenna and the original wheels are all there

Anyone have pictures of espresso w gold top?
John. I have protective plate and dealer info id like to email you if you want pm your info

Sounds like a potential vested employee PMD car .
50-50 chance , and no real monetary value added necessarily , more sentimental with a 350 2bbl car.

The PoP date compared against trim tag date could be an indicator on that.

PHS invoice would be a sure fire indicator.
But not worth getting on a parts car.

mysticmissle 11-12-2025 05:27 AM

What does vested employee care mean? Like a retirement gift or special order with inexpensive options? I have the protecto plate info I guess I ca do a preliminary data search of the original owner
Car is pretty special trying to get a key made, may just pull column apart and try and get it to run correct way or just hot wire it. Motor is free and guy I got it from said he drove it as is long ago.

Baron Von Zeppelin 11-12-2025 06:41 PM

Vested PMD employees got company cars to drive.
They hand pick ordered whatever they wanted , up to a determined dollar amount.
Every 3 months or 3000 miles - another new car.

Just a picture of the trim tag and a picture of the PoP would do for now.
If you can't upload pictures , you can just tell us those dates.

Those employees were like heads of departments and executives , etc...
Not regular factory workers.
PMD sold the cars through dealerships at discount , after they were turned in by the employee.

Upper right corner is the date = 06-69

Below that is the mileage on the car
1 = 1 mile

Baron Von Zeppelin 11-12-2025 06:56 PM

Next to the left rivet hole is the build month/week.
9 is September
B is the 2nd week

I did a little digging, this gentleman was quite a man. No pmd connection that i see but he was not an average guy. I did end up ordering the phs today too. Curiosity got me.

Baron Von Zeppelin 11-12-2025 09:27 PM

Looks like he bought it new with 4 miles on the clock at delivery.

Baron Von Zeppelin 11-12-2025 09:32 PM

I completely missed the trim tag picture in post #1
01B dated.

My settings don't show pictures unless I click on the provided link to a picture.
Or signatures or avatars either.

With the unique colors and option content , I would say he personally hand selected everything about the car and ordered it his way.

THM 400 not completely sure if available with 350 2bbl .
Turbine 2spd and THM 350 were for sure.
If it definitely has a THM400 though , might check it's VIN stamp.

mysticmissle 11-13-2025 08:04 AM

it is def a turbo 400 and it def looks original. Only thing i have found withthe 350 2 bl, is that maybe the posi and the AC triggered the turbo 400. its heavy girl with all the power accessories too

SD455DJ 11-13-2025 09:30 AM

AC triggers the TH400 in 1969 for Firebirds & A-bodies (non-GTO's) when an auto trans is ordered.

Baron Von Zeppelin 11-13-2025 01:48 PM

Good info Dennis .
I had checked a dealer order form and a power train chart earlier and couldn't find anything conclusive.
Nothing exactly eliminated it either.
They grouped M38 and M40 together.

Here ya go BVZ. I hope it's legible.

Baron Von Zeppelin 11-13-2025 02:45 PM

Yes I can read that one pretty good.
The one on gt-37.org was almost impossible with 2 pair of reading glasses stacked together.

SD455DJ 11-13-2025 02:47 PM

Haha! I have to do that sometimes too!

Phs is in. It's loaded 350 2bl

Baron Von Zeppelin 11-17-2025 02:35 PM

All those convenience options are cool.
and a posi axle with a 2bbl might be the first I've seen.
That was Judge money.

Wonder if the hubcap rims are 6" or 7" with F70 tires , I don't know what was available on those..

The PoP date is an oddity listed as Jan 1970

mysticmissle 11-17-2025 02:53 PM

What are the last two items?
Optional LOC and Adv Asn Col?

Baron Von Zeppelin 11-17-2025 03:50 PM

Optional local advertising association collection .
It's one item across 2 lines.

Dealers in the advertising group paid a flat fee per car into the collection fund.
TV ads, newspaper ads, etc...
Usually $10 - 20 per car depending on the area and amount of advertising.
It should list a dollar amount out next to it.

Hubcaps were included in the Decor Group

All firebirds with an optional engine (ie, not the 1bbl ohc) came with 7" wheels and F tires in 69. Even with the base 1bbl engine if you ordered any optional F sized tire you'd also get the 7" rims. In other words, the only way to get 6" rims was to order a base engine car with the standard E sized tires that came with that engine only.

I suspect, based on the options the car and the document dates, it was used by someone at the dealership and then sold as a demo a year later.

Dennis

The exception to this was that very late (around july 69) in the model run they started installing the th350 with the 2bbl 350 with AC combo. I suspect the reason for the th400 in the 2bbl AC cars was perhaps a production capacity issue for the then brand new th350 and or a concern about some combo of torque and weight for the th350, subsequent tested would have released it for those AC applications.

Maybe a possibility.
But the document above the PoP states date of retail sale 1-22-69
And PoP coded A1 showing 4 miles , perhaps typo'd 1-27-70

Baron Von Zeppelin 11-17-2025 04:51 PM

Camaro guys will pay up for date matched set of those 7" wheels.
Too early for 69 TA buyers , but they might would bite on them.

Btw, this car is an example of a strange billing oddity on factory to dealer invoices:

As discussed in this thread, if you ordered a Firebird with a 350 2bbl with AC and hydramatic transmission you received a th400 instead of a th350. In this case the dealer would be billed the regular th400 MSRP price of $227.04.

However, if you ordered the same powertrain combo of 350 2bbl, AC and hydramatic on an A body (except GTO of course), you still would get the th400 but the dealer would be billed the th350 price of $205.92.

Who knows why, wonder which one was what they intended and which one was a decision they forgot to apply?

north 11-17-2025 05:06 PM

The attachment in my last post shows a very late car being actually built with a th350 with the 3502bbl AC combo (hence the 359 instead of 351 option code).

mysticmissle 11-17-2025 05:33 PM

This should have the 278 posi? Where is the break down for "361" ?
The original steel wheels are long gone. It does have a set of vintage 14" ET slotted aluminum mags on it.
Thanks for all the learning.
I'm going to try and make her run next warm
Day I have off

Baron Von Zeppelin 11-17-2025 08:02 PM

2.78 by the chart that Dennis posted.
They didn't order HD Posi , or economy axle , or performance axle.
Any of those would show on the invoice.
So it should be standard ratio.

What is the document that shows date of retail sale ?
Anything that supports Jan 69 or Jan 70 of him taking ownership ?

mysticmissle 11-17-2025 08:25 PM

I assumed it was typo like
You but will
Dig thru what I have for paperwork

Baron Von Zeppelin 11-17-2025 08:29 PM

I bought a 10bolt posi out of a 68 GTO Auto AC.
The car was stacked on top of another car - they wouldn't let me touch it.
But I could see the shiny Limited Slip tag on the cover.
Rolled the dice.

I paid - and they pulled it out (torch cut all control arms) the next day.
Picked up next day = 2.56 ! shet I was expecting 3.23 or 3.08 at the worst.
They must have ordered economy axle on top of saf -t-track

north 11-18-2025 01:48 PM

I've noticed that a lot of 69 350 2bbl AC Firebirds and A bodies were actually built with 2.56 even though the chart says 2.78. I suspect that the powertrain chart was changed at the start of the run but they didn't bother to reprint revised ones. Similarly, 69 GTO's with automatic and no AC, the charts all say 3.36 but most 69 GTO's with automatic and no AC ended up with 3.55's.
