SM mid-rise intake on saleio :)
1 Attachment(s)
It's Black Friday and see SM has their mid-rise intake manifold on sale. Is this a copy of the Performer RPM with the exhaust crossover removed and has anyone used one yet?

I’m on the fence about buying one for the 455 I’m refreshing this winter, looks solid but I haven’t seen any feedback from anyone who’s running one.

Hmmmmm, Fuel Injector Bosses on a Dual-plane is thee ting for "carb break-in to FI run in a modern transplant project.
Been on my list to BUY, and -$115 means heck yes. This better be on the up & up. Ordered. THANKS! |
Well can't help myself, I just bought a bunch of stuff from S-Master.
Single plane intake a set of there gold roller rockers look like HS A billet 8000 MSD style dizzy, 2.19 intake valves a 2 inch blower spacer Oh and a set of cometic style head gaskets .040 thickness 4.200 bore. I thimk thats it. Was gona buy some more heads but I've got enough of them for now. Still another day left get it while ya can. Can't beat the prices. GT |
Have been running one on my 455 for years with Holley and most recently QJet. Nice intake, much better drivability than prior HSD especially in low and midrange. I like it plus I routed all wiring and hoses underneath it.

positioned awfully high in the port. And they've got even more of them on the underside. https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...1&d=1764485757 |
I use these, from when they were known as "Crosswind" intakes. Love them. The air gap makes a great place to run wiring and vacuum hoses.
|
I've seen them on the Butler website. if you run thin valve cover gaskets you might have clearance issues with those high injector bosses
|
Does anyone know how the finish holds up on these? I’m thinking about the polished or the satin (painted blue to match)

...never got a SM79 order confirmation, but did take a photo of the Sale order with #.
Called SM79 and it shipps Monday. Those better be capable of fuel injector drillings or the purchase is moot. |

I ordered the satin which I assume is natural so that I can paint it, sale ends soon.

Not sure how this specific manifold was made but typically a mold will serve as the form for a casting.
Maybe the bosses in question on the top and underside of the manifold are involved in designing the casting pattern. . |

This manifold is a single plane manifold that will fit under all Pontiac hoods including the Trans-Am "Shaker" hood. It accepts a stock Quadrajet carb but we also include an adapter plate for standard square bore carbs. This manifold is designed to work with cylinder heads up to 300 CFM. It is also available machined for injectors. The dual plane looks like it has similar bosses for injection but there’s no mention in the description. |
Opinion. The dual plane intake does not have the required material thickness for injector bungs.

I resisted the Black Friday sale, proud of myself ! Not much I would want from them . Maybe their SFI T 400 case. But I was worried about having trouble with it. I will put my SW forward and direct aluminum drums in a OEM case and run it.
They do have some straight bolt billet 455 main caps for 97 $ but were not part of the sale. Solid chunk of steel so less chance to screw them up and they are cheap. I have a nice std 74 455 block. But thats another project and I have too many right now anyway. |
Last year I bought some of the black roller rockers. the fulcrum roller
seamed ok but but the small roller for the valve steams seam cheap and said only 300 lbs of spring pressure, might use them on a small hft cam motor. I hope the gold ones are better they claim 600 pounds of spring pressure. I'll let ya all know what there like when I get them.yesterday I bought some more stuff 7/16x2 inch rocker studs and a 1050 throttle body. See if it will clean mine up with them having bleeds. bunch of other stuff ordered too. GT |
RPM for a buck seventy five
Thanks everyone for posting. Steve, the FI bosses appear to be the same diameter just two separate instead of a single boss for two injectors. The small raised circles on the bottom of the runners look nothing like the FI bosses.
I ordered a couple intakes this black Friday. Both sets of heads from last year's sale checked out fine which lead to another purchase this year. I am sure if these heads were coming apart when used we would hear it six ways from Sunday even on the ready-to-run versions. So far guys are happy with SM. I might pull the trigger on the main caps just yet. Feel free to update the thread if you are happy or unhappy with what you ordered. BG you keep on keeping on :D |
"Steve, the FI bosses appear to be the same diameter just two separate instead of a single boss for two injectors."
Noted. However the depth doesn't seem right if one wanted to drill and install injector bungs. They are 'taller' on the single plane intake. Only opinion on my part, and formed on the basis of incomplete information. . |

The SM DualPlane arrived. Quality look good.Looks like Fuel Injectors will fit, when centered.
If jerked any small distance off-center AWAY from flange, they will certainly fit. Doesn't seem like the injector protrudes, but can be made flush with the runner ceiling. |
Most searches will suggest a single-plane intake with its consistent runner lengths and port roof heights are used for a direct port fuel injection conversion.
Additionally they are easier to get all the injectors mounted at the same level, and position. . |
if its a Pontiac 455 I am running a single plane all day long.
Smaller single planes like the Tomahawk work really nice on a stout 455. |
Dualplane for the low ROM TQ under load, due mostly to ISOLATION.
Singleplane: 7robs5 & 1robs2, & 3robs4, & 5robs6 of their full AIR inhale. Mitigated at high rpm. |

How did the gold roller rockers turn out BG? |
Been to busy with the holidays to even lool at them
I'll let ya know tomorrow after christmas. GT |
Well got a good look at the roller rockers and they look pretty good
from what I can see, nice fulcrum and roller tip to, looks a lot stronger then the black one's I ordered. I'll be trying them on a motor for this summer and see how they work in action. GT |
