You have to have a build sheet (or list of codes, like from the Eric White book) to decode. Although - I'm not sure how one gets the billing history card without getting the PHS decode. K https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...1&d=1764885523 https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...1&d=1764885603 |

Here are two documents that pertain to a 1966 GTO.
Disregard the underlines as they pertain to my personal car. |
Great color combo ! And some good options.
Should have gotten at least one order form page like this with the BHC you have. https://cdn.dealeraccelerate.com/mce...66-pontiac-gto |
616 =
Option 612 - Air Injection Reactor (AIR) Exhaust System Option 614 - Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) System Both required in California 1966 with manual trans, went hand-in-hand with your WW (Cali) engine code. Air cleaner (if original) should have a pipe going from it to the valve cover. aka closed system |
FYI to keep the information correct for 1966 GTO’s.
Automatic with 4BBL. (code XE) also required A.I.R. (Smog) if sold New in California. The only GTO that did not require A.I.R. in ‘66 was the Automatic Tri-Power (code YR). |
Awesome, everyone, thank you for the help! While the car was originally a 4BBL model, it now has a TriPower.
Its claimed the motor has a YF stamp on the front passenger side of the block, not sure what vintage that is , also the manifold has a 093 stamped on it. I go and inspect tomorrow. |
Quote:
No 612 air pump. Was 614 required on Cali YR engine - or did buyers choose that option ? |
Quote:
since they used 093 heads with it. The heads are correct for 66 GTO , the manifolds start further below the 093 casting number. 389 block will have 3 freeze plugs per side. |
Quote:
612 Exhaust Control 614 Crankcase Vent Exhaust control must be a GM blanket term , like with Chevy and their fancy plumbing into the exhaust ports. :gag: Great condition on that Buildsheet , Keith ! |

Not sure how I crossed that up . Photo memory needs a new roll of film in it. |

Thank you for all the help. I do have the accompanying PHS documents now it all makes sense.
Picked up the car yesterday after a very long day. Ill make another post with pictures once I get it unloaded. |

23-011 does not appear on the UltimateGTO dealer code list. K |

No - I was referring to WQ59B.
You will likely not have the dealer name unless you have the original window sticker or purchased a reproduction from PHS. K |

I’ve only been able to verify 11 units so far. Of those, 2 were built at BF (Fremont) plant and sold new in California. These 2 cars have the required 614 option. |
I have parted out 2 of them. One Silver , One Fontaine
Friend parted out a really high option Candlelight with AC Sold a Red with Black Vtop Black Interior AC car in early 90s to a Canadian fellow. And still own my Black one. No Fremont's out here. |
BVZ,
Care to message me photos and PHS of this ‘66 Black YR you have for my research folder. Thanks. |

My source is recorded as from '67 paperwork. 'Anderson' fits perfectly, alphabetically for a numerically low '011' code. Moore must have come in after '87, when the system got reorganized (my source there is '99). |
Wallace Racing has the most compiled list of PMD dealers on the internet.
He updates constantly also. |

It was an honest car that had a carb fire and melted the carbs a bit. Sat for 10 years, then I bought it. Might do PHS as part of my Christmas gift to me this year. I didn't have PHS on the Red car when I sold it. Wrote the guy a guarantee , and he ran PHS later on it. All 5 of those cars still had their original engines intact. |
Online, for sure.
I believe I surpassed WR's listing in total dealers a couple years back - I have about 11,000 Pontiac dealers compiled (about half coded)... but it is not currently online. |

oh , so that's the problem .
And it's true that I don't do pictures of my fixxer uppers, never have. They haven't seen daylight since the early 90s. But there are pictures from the 80s of 6 previous cars of mine scattered on here. My former 73 SD has a lot of pictures posted when I sold it on here. And all these years I thought we were pals. No problem If I do decide to PHS the 66 YR car I will share it though. My 65 67 69 70 and 70 TA PHS's have already been shared on here. |
