roller rockers
 

Building a 433 stroker w KRE heads and wanted to get roller rockers. Preferably full roller rockers and 1.5 ratio should be fine. Recommendations please.

I would stay away from cheap knock offs. Scorpion Pontiac rockers, the Harland Sharp race series or Comp. Are good. I have used. Them. . And of course Crower Stainless steel are a great option.
The cheaper rockers like the Speed Masters are noisy,I did not like them due to how noisy they are and would not recommend.

I've been running the Scorpion 1.5's on my 37 for about 4 years now. I've had no issues. I bought them through Butler.

I've had Harland Sharp 1.5's in service now for 11 years and thousands of miles. The same rockers have been on two different engines.

I have been running H&S for as long as I can remember.Have used them for pretty much all my builds.Tom

Harland Sharp here too and never an issue. Very good customer service as well.

Be sure the pushrod socket promotes low friction for easy spin.

Nothing like a Roller Rocker that prevents the Pishrod& Lifter from spinning.

Thanks for the responses. I thought I'd heard good things about HS and Scorpion, so your comments confirm this. I've also heard that there are problems with the Comp. rockers, bluing from heat due to interference with the ball and socket. Has that problem been addressed?

That issue with comp roller tip rockers has been addressed a few times on here over the years, some dont like them & claim ALL of them have blueing or heat problems and that is simply not true.... there was a bad batch or maybe user error that caused or contributed to those problems, yet 100s of thousands of them in use dont have any problems. I for one have a set in use for 10k+ miles & like 30+ years used on 2 different engines that see above average abuse & high (5500-6000) rpms. Lots of others on here use them that report none of the problems.

As with most things like this you only hear about the small number of problems when the large majority are working perfectly fine.... theres reports & pics of H/S rockers breaking too, doesnt mean all of them are gonna break! ;)

Keep in mind some rockers have a spring PSI limitation, so if you're planning on running a solid roller, you should step up to the stronger offerings.

The PRW stainless ones Butler branded are an option, and half the price of others.

The PRW 'Elite' series are stainless and the same cost as the Scorpions/Comp aluminum bodies.

Interesting Butler doesn't carry the Harland Sharp ones anymore.

Been running Harland Sharp here on a couple of vehicles, one set for 20+ years and thousands of miles.

Depending on your timeline, good used HS pop up here all the time at a significant savings so keep an eye on the for-sale ads.

We have Harland Sharp on 4 engines with Round port E-heads.
Rocker arm geometry is perfect with these rockers. (With the correct length pushrod).

I ended up going with the HS 1.5's. I liked the
Crowers but they were twice the price...yikes.

Correction to my post- The set I bought new in the early 90s and have been on 2 different motors over ~30 years have 100k miles on them, not 10k.

Three different engines ,three different heads, four different camshafts HS rockers. 25 years same set. What no one mentions is customer service..I sent them in for a checkover some of the rollers were sticky..I think it was less than a hundred dollars and sent back in a shrink wrap package.

I've had really good experience with either the Harland Sharp and the PRW stainless.

I threw a set of PRW stainless in the garbage and called Butler to complain about selling them to me in the first place, put Crower Enduros in. Who wants the risk of roller tip pin material grinding up everything in a very expensive engine. Maybe if Pontiacs were as cheap to replace as a Chev small block.

What was the issue with your PRWs?

I had heard bad things about the PRW's so they weren't even on my list. I got my HS rockers today and the bonus was the poly locks were included.

I used PRW 1.52 stainless steel roller rockers for my build using KRE heads (D-port 85cc 290cfm CNC ported heads from SD Performance. Ten years, only 13,000 miles but several performance upgrades over the years with a total tear down (more upgrades) 5 years ago. The roller rockers were checked over closely and were in super shape so reused them. All good and a lot of street style pounding on the car. Guess I got lucky.

Reading a post hear about the lash not staying constant(Cliff R) so I started checking mine(Solid roller) and sure enough the lash was growing and the oil drain plug had a fuzzy paste on it.

Sure it could be something else and I haven’t put enough miles on the motor since the switch to know the problem is solved. But I wasn’t going to wait.

Apologies, meant to say Crower 1.65 CRO-73624-16. I'm currently running these and very happy with them. Also ran Harland Sharp's on the street for many years with no issues.

Yep, maybe I wasn't clear in my statement. ( Sorry)Scorpions are 1 of the brands I use.
