Is this an opti spark symptom?
Lately my 94 T/A has been taking an extra couple of seconds to fire up. I started it last week and it died in the garage and wouldn't restart. Today it started right up. I discovered that the previous owner replaced the water pump and then the computer, so he must of had some problems, but failed to tell me at the time of the sale. I'm sure he got the opti unit wet when changing out the pump. Will a bad opti run sometimes and then leave you sitting the next, or do they die and not restart? I have no experience with this setup.

Yes Optispark problems can cause that. Worst idea GM ever had.

Well everything get blamed on the opti on an lt1 car, and while it could be, I would absolutely check your fuel pressure before buying any parts. Your symptom sound more like that for a first suspect.

I'm not to wild about spending $500 for an MSD opti, so I'll sure check the pressure first. The fuel gauge reads slow, so maybe there is something going on in the tank? This car sat indoors for years and was seldom driven.

I remember my gauge sweep was maybe a little slow but more importantly I have run out of gas when the needle was a hair above the E line. My pump died with 60k something miles so it happens.

Did the new pump and sender fix the gauge sweep?

My 97 T/A also ran out of gas when it was still indicating 1/8-1/4tank.
I had a random problem with the engine laying down and barely running intermittently, then it would straighten out and run fine. However the car caught fire under the hood due to a leaking fuel line before I solved the intermittent problem. |
