Also

I have a set of 8 from a 67 big car. 2 have busted ring lands. Don’t want much for em

mysticmissle 04-01-2023 01:10 PM

Any chance you can get the part number off them? Also if you do handle them, can you confirm they are both 5/64 rings? I’m have a set of 68 pistons that have 3/32 second rings and 5/64 tops I had never noticed this in a
Pontiac pistons

Joe-Touring 04-01-2023 02:10 PM

P/ns are 9787610. Don’t have the rings, but the pistons measured at 0.0825 top and 0.0785 2nd

Soooo will 1 factory 1970 400 piston allow you to reach a goal, i saved 1 from my 400 for some reason, i would have to look for a P/N

mysticmissle 04-01-2023 08:45 PM

It is quite
Possible it’s the same thanks for
Looking

Formulas 04-02-2023 07:10 PM

pulled the piston off the wall was hanging on a BME rod

top and second groove are the same size ran a piece of old ring around both grooves no tight spots
appears to be your part number

there is some unexplained handeling gouges on the botton of one skirt just knock down high spots should work fine

also have a good original pin can go with

i never figured on using it again, its yours for shipping if you want it

Sooo....I'm supposed to be opening up a 400 that is in a 1970 GTO YS. Very well cared for, compression is still strong on all 8, the engine has never been in to. If we decide to do a full rebuild there would be 8 GM pistons available, unless they can be ringed I guess. Would be in a couple of weeks if this goes as planned...
