As I decompressed the piston in the caliper on my wifes 2000 Impala, this happened. Is there reason for concern? I only replaced the pads and reused the rotors. Just don't want her to have any surprizes down the road. (Been there already one time)

No reason for concern. When you are done with the brake job, adjust the fluid level until it is at the 'max fill' line. It sounds like brake fluid must have been added at some point (to the resevoir), so that when you return the caliper pistons back to the 'new brake pad' condition, you had too much fluid in the system and it overflowed some. You'll of course want to clean up where the brake fluid spilled, or it will eat up the paint.

Trivia: How do you know if the pads/shoes are worn out without looking at the wheels? Yup, if the fluid level is low.

All the shops around here have a disclaimer plastered all over the shop that says during an L.O.F., they will top off all fluids except brake fluid for that reason, and in case you actually have a leak.

another sign of low fluid level is the slowly leaking wheel cylinders at the rear drums.
i have experienced this a couple of times on late model gm trucks with high mileage.
no signs of a brake problem until the fluid is abnormally low.
