I don't recall the question but the primary difference is in the first gear ratio which in turn affects the torque capacity. TKO 500 uses a 3.28 first gear while the TKO 600 uses a 2.89. The TKO 600 has closer ratios as well. No brainer choice here since they both are very close in price.

I have a TKO600 and my 455 is currently being built. Considering I have a street car set up for handling with 17" wheels and a 3.73 gear, I don't think I'll ever get enough traction to break anything.

That being said, the TKO 600 is the only manual trans with OD that easily bolts into our cars. So there really is only one choice if you need 600 ft/lb of torque capacity.

Senior chief,I own a 64 GTO.I was told in order to install a TKO in in it, I would have to cut the floor out in the hump area.Do you know if this is true.Also what do you think of the Jerico 5 speed?

The Jerico's are great but I doubt you will find one close to the same price as a TKO.

Welcome aboard Charlie! Jerico's are the best but are VERY expensive. The TKO is a good trans, quite a few people are running them. Only problem is missing shifts at the strip, maybe someone that has one would comment on strip performance. For a look at Jerico's, Click Here. Goodluck-Jim

I think the Jerico can probably handle anything you can throw at it. Alot of the stockers/super stockers use them.

The old Doug Nash/Richmond RACING 5 speed can handle alot of torque also.

SInce this is in the street section, you should be aware that the Jerico will WHINE really loudly while dirving around due to the angle of the teeth. No such issues with the TKO.

Jerico has a new 4 speed,The WC4-4 have you herd about it?It has straight cut and wider CNC Machined from VAR (Vacuum Arc remelt)steel gears.Also they say it has a proven 6 lug Dog ring and slider shifting system that will provide clean butter smooth positive shifts.What's a 6 lug dog ring does any one know?Is it like a sincrow? Charlie, Jericos are run in Pro-Stock, they list 1200hp, 6 sec Pro-Stocks are putting out more. As far as missed shifts I have no actual experience, just repeating what I have heard, I think it is on the 2-3 shift, due to a narrow gate? I sure hope someone that races one chimes in here, please do not base a decision on what I said, I could be wrong. -Jim

I have a TKO 5 in mine. Kinda noisy but then I don't have anything as far as carpet and sound deadner yet... Shifts smooth (hda to break it in) Got it Forte's..tell him I sent ya! Got pics of the install for a 78 TA...not sure what yours is...
