Hey
I have just bought a 1971 350ci Oldsmobile for my 1978 T/A, it is completely stock besides the Hedmen headers, its is rated to 260bhp am told but the engine needs a new carb. I would like to know what would be a good carb to go for? The car is intended use as a daily driver with the odd trip down the strip, and I love to rip away from the lights when racing the British and Japinesse cars down the street.(Scotland, UK) I have a brand new Holley 750cfm Vac Sec that i was going to use on the original Pontiac 400 motor before the piston rings went. I also have the original Q-jet from it, would either of these carbs be any use or are they to big? Or should i go for a 600cfm Edelbrock? I've always fancied a Double Pumper but are they really worth the extra petrol? I am intending to use an 1" spacer if that makes any difference? On a different subject does anyone know what the intail timing on the 1971 350ci Olds is? And Will Pontiac 400 headers fit on to a 350 olds or will there be some modification required? Thanks for any help Cheers Stu |

I own a 1970 Olds with a 350. The timing on it is 10* btdc. For your carb the pontiac should work. As far as the hedders i doubt they will work without modifications. Is this engine gold or orange ? I ask this because mine is a gold engine a true olds engine.

This Olds website has good tech support: http://www.realoldspower.com/

Its a gold one, does this make any difference? Does the Holley Vac Sec work differently than the Q-Jet? Do you think the holley it would pump into much fuel.

Okay so it is a true olds engine. If you want the correct carb for that engune it is 7041250
or 17041250. The holley could be a bit large in size for that engine. The holley vacum secondaries should work the same as a quadrajet, not exactly sure though. |
Hey guys now for my next problem,
Ive have just picked my my new motor and its a 1971 350ci Olds, 45Kmiles, gold in colour, completely stock, Points dizzy, a two barrel Intake manifold and a 2 barrel Rochester carb. I also have a 1979 403ci Olds stock motor, and i what to put the HEI dizzy from the 403 into 350 is this possible? I would also like to know if i should put the 4 barrel intake from the 403 onto 350 or would this be restrictive on horsepower and torque or should i go for an edelbrock performer? Did my engine of that year ever come with a 4 barrel intake that i can search for? Cheers Stu |
