the most popular for high HP use is the Jerico.

I race a clutch assisted Jerico DR4 with road race sliders and the standard H pattern Hurst shifter, Super duty 1350 yoke and 1350 series U joints with solid cross.

Ram adjustable long style clutch.

Well I run the least desirable of all four speeds, a Saginaw but have had good success with them. I'm also using a Centerforce single disc clutch. Launch around 4 grand and shift at 5600.

I,ve got a Liberty slick shifted Hemi NP 833 4 speed that was in my Mopar bracket racer, Thinking about droping it into my 73 SD T/A just for fun. It held up to a 590fpt 440 in a 70 Cuda , think it will work behind my pontiac. Jeff

Muncie M-22.Hint-Redline MT90 is GREAT stuff for manual trans shifts. -JimT

Im using a Liberty modified (to fit a GM) 'Hemi' A833 4 speed in my street GTO (70). Very soon (next month) Im going to switch to the new TKO 600 5 speed and the 4 speed will be for sale.

NW S/D 06-13-2004 06:02 AM

Tom, I have a question about your 833, is it a alum. case? if so have any problems with countershaft case hole elongation? or have they been bushed ? As you have probley guessed mine is a alum case based on the old Direct Connection part. And it does have case wear that needs to be adderesed, bushed once before. any help or suggestions? Thanks Jeff.

Jeff, I worked with a guy named Paul at liberty when I ordered the 4 speed. For strength reasons he recommended the iron case and standard 2.65 first gear, so thats what I went with. I have only put about 5 total hours of running time on the trans so far (most of it with the rearend on jackstands) so I have yet to hit it hard.

NW S/D 06-13-2004 10:01 AM

Tom, thanks , I do have a iron case to , it just weights a ton. I,ll have to get in touch with Liberty I guess,BTW I have had zero problems with this trans I don,t think it,ll ever break unlike those damm Muncies.

trans am ed 06-13-2004 10:39 AM

how much work has to done to put a hemi 4 speed in a f-body. would a cast case t-10 be as strong.

Tom McQueen 06-13-2004 12:32 PM

There are 2 major mods done to the 833 4 speed to get them to work in a GM application. The input shaft is custom cut to the correct length with the correct pilot bearing on the end. So you will need to use a 1 3/16" X 18 11" clutch disc. The other mod is a custom front bearing retainer that will fit correctly into a GM bellhousing and use a GM throwout bearing. You will need to re-drill 3 holes for the transmission mounting bolts and add a small tab made from .250" plate for the fourth mounting bolt (looking at the trans mounting surface its the bolt in the lower right). The trans mount is higher than a Muncie, so you need a spacer. This spacer doubles as an adapter so you can use a GM trans mount. The speedo drive is the same as a GM. You will need a 30 spline trans yoke put on your driveshaft.
Nothing to it.

Tom interesting, mine uses a stock retainer with a hydraulic throwout bering. Must use a aftermarket belhousing (McLeoud Chev type) they have a removable ring in the hole that the retainer goes in. I do not belive the T10 would be as strong as the Hemi 833 especially after Liberty gears & sliders are used. Jeff

Seems like the new Tremec 600 is a better choice. It handles 600 ft lbs of torque and has a .62 overdrive to make your 3.90 gears seem like a 2.41 on the Interstate.

Super T-10 with the cast iron case is the ONLY way to go. I went through 2 super T-10's and rebuily one and split the case's on all 3. Have a 455 that would to the 1/4 in 13.00@107 spinning through 1st. About 480 HP. Got the iron case and no more problems.

Doug Nash 4+1 Pro shift with straight cut SAE 9310 steel alloy gears and 3.25:1 first http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_cool.gif
