This is clip of an advertisment on ebay of a Red 2004 GTO for sale... Hummmm this may stir the pot a little....

Remember to a lot of people now, especially the younger ones old=slow If it's new it's gotta be a 10 second car, especially with just exhaust. |

WOW 11K in Depreciation on a one year old 1200 mile GTO. Does that say something about new the GTO or not. Wake up Clutz!

In 1967, a '66 GTO that sold new for $3600 was worth about $2200-$2600 depending on miles and whether it was a manual or a/t. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_wink.gif

Dealers are morons. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...n_rolleyes.gif If they're losing their shirts on this car then they got what they deserved...just look at the lousy dealer prep on these cars when they leave the showroom floor. Funny how the tuner crowd likes to bag on the older GTOs yet are so quick to embrace the name.

The "buy it now price" was $24,900. Take that away from $33,000 (dealers sticker price in my area) and you are left with $8100. Also given that when you drive any make of car off the lot it is already beginning to depreciate, I would consider the car to be priced realistically. |

Thanks for the compliment Doug!! I get alot of people saying they love the color, but I wish I new what color it truly is!! I think it's that Corvette blue (I tell people that it's 1966 Barrier Blue because that 's the closest GTO color I can compare it to.) When I get it repainted, I'm going to keep it the same. You ought to see it in the sunlight... WOW!!!

I'm pushing 40, so I'm not really young and not really a really old timer. The new cars are just superior from a performance point of view. They don't have the soul or the nostalgia of the musclecars, which is why the old ones are more expensive (if in great shape).
The new cars CAN be versatile, and be a good grocery getter. Even more so than the old ones. My '01 Formula LS1 was a daily driver with a car seat in the rear. With the supercharger (never tried the nitrous on top) it would run 11.7 all day long, get almost 20 mpg average, and had the reliability no older car can match. It's just a different era. They each have pro's and con's ... So I just keep some around of both vintage. Mike M |

Had GM priced the 2004 GTO with that in mind and with a few "soulful" retro cues then it would have fared much better. Ignoring the traditional GTO consumer as Lutz so indicated was both insulting and marketing suicide. But From what I seen some dealer's were charging $5-6K over sticker just to order the car at the begining of the model year. Realisticly this 04 could be $12-13K less then when bought new. Glen |
