I'm sure this has been covered before, but I can't seem to find anything in the archives about it. Will the HEI distributor from the 301 fit in a 350? Seems I can only find 301's in the wreckers around here.

The 301 has a way shorter deck height. Hence a much shorter distributor.
He, who laughs last... |
Distributor length is the same, though deckheight (where the head mounts) is different... back area by the distributor is same dimension. That said, any HEI distributor should be recurved for best performance.

HE....
Nonsense. ALL Pontiac V-8 distributors interchange from 1955-1981 with no exceptions, except for the 455SD and Ram Air V. Some people , for some reason, think that some Pontiacs rotate the opposite direction, that is not true either. There are differences in the distributors over the years yes, but they will interchange. Remember the later 301s and 265s do not have vacumn advance. and yes, recurve them to your application too. Yep. But do the recurve.

I got the HEI in my 400 from a "U-Pull" lot out of a 78 301. They only have about 7-8 degrees of mechanical advance and 20+ degrees of vacuum advance. If you are going to change mechanical, definitely need to limit vacuum adv!

Am I the only one that noticed that distributor was for Chevy Blocks only. The only pontiac that dist will work for is one with a Chevy engine.

CJ. Believe your comment is towards the e-Bay auction, agree the pic is for a new import Chevy HEI distributor. The seller may have a deal & is providing whichever marque of non electronic HEI, at the close of the auction, but like you, not sure. Hard to believe that anyone would tool up for Buick, or Olds, or Pontiac HEI bodies.

Aubrey Parker in Dallas once told me the 301s have a pretty decent curve and the junk yards sell they cheaper as thery are 301s!
