Ok, so I fabbed up a card-board box the size of the Gen II Compac (20.5" long x 9" high and 7.75" deep) I'm not very optimistic. Leaving room for the hoses on the passenger side, this is my best guess. Another thing for anyone that's done this. The 9" high clearance is the actual size, how much room do you need on top of that to route the ducts - I have none!

I am getting ready to order a system myself for my 79 body. The only thing I can say in response to your mock up, is that the actual unit is not a rectangular box, so you have more room than you think. I did install a vintage air system in a 79 about 6 years ago. The thing did fit under the dash, and the ducts were very flexible.Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures. Glove box is a right off!

Cool! Nice to know that it will fit as I will be buying one as well.

So it can be done!! Yea, I figured out yesterday that I'd loose the glove-box! I know I'm not going to get a real feel for it until I have the actual unit.

When you speak to the reps from either Vintage or Classic, they recommend their 'Super Cooler' packages, but I was thinking about the compact unit also. I would be interested in your findings if you go that way.

Me too! I have to put AC in a non-ac 73 TA. What do you do about the firewall after you rip out the heater?

Brock, I made a block off plate out of a piece of sheet metal. Used stock holes and body sealer.

I'll be doing this in about a month, we'll see how it goes!

My current issue revolves around the fresh air cowl inlet. Since the Vintage Air doesn't use outside air, I'd like to seal it off. Now, if I seal it off, it looks like I could "modify" the interior to give me a little more top and back room. (It's the area just above where the arrow on the box is in my pic) Just not sure about starting to cutup sheet metal at this point though!

Mark, I plan to combine the Vintage air unit, which only recirculates interior air, with a pair of non A/C kick panels. I can disable the top pull cable on each side, as the top ducts will be used for A/C, and still use the bottom duct to bring in some fresh air as desired. Best of both worlds I think.

I bought a Vintage Air Universal Compact system. I have done a rough mount of the unit under the dash, but will not progress further until the car comes back from paint (about a month I hope). I just read on another post that Vintage sells a bracket for the Pontiac Engine. They did not even offer this to me???

Mounting the compressor is not an issue for me,we used a complete billet serp belt set up from March.
I am trying to put 10 lbs of potatoes in a 5 lb bag.Besides the a/c and all the stock stuff also need space for 2 computers for the fuel injections and nitrous controllers.
Oh and the driver is 6'5" and the car will be lowered 3" so I am cutting the floor up to run 3" exhaust. In my case a 1/4" matters.

When I ordered a universal heater w/defrost kit (pics: http://www.coicfamily.us/projects.html) from vintage air, I inquired about A/C for my car, and they did tell me that they not only had the compressor, but brackets as well made just for my car/engine.
