Could it be a door switch?(very common) Have you checked both doors? How about the headlight switch itself will they work with that?

If I have too live life on my knees I'd rather die on my feet.

I agree with 79ta's post. Try checking both door switches. They should be mounted near and below the front door hinges. The switches look like little pins and should move in/out freely. Make sure these switches are not stuck. Wiggle them around a little bit and spray some type of lubricant on them .... WD-40 should work. Let us know how you made out.

You did not elaborate on the function of the dome light with the headlight switch.. very important to know this. If your dome light works with turning the headlight switch, you have eliminated the light itself. Look at the switch, then wires, then fuseblock.

Remove the door switch, check for 12V at one of the wires on the switch. If you have 12V, at one of the wires, your switch is bad.

If you do not have 12V at the back of the switch, the problem is "upstream" between the switch and the fuseblock. Check for continuity between the switch and the appropriate pin on the fuseblock.

Many times, on vehicles 25 years old you will find corrosion at the fuseblock.

I don't think you'll get 12 volts at any of the door switches. Most door switches complete a GROUND circuit when the door is opened so the switch will never have voltage to it, only grounding.

I've never checked them on a 70's T/A but that's the way that I have seen most door switches.

Drag, that makes more sense. In that case, you can just do a continuity chech of the switch in each position.
