I have e-heads on my 455 and am attempting to check valve lash but have no clue as to the cam.so what lash # should I use?Right now I'm getting between .010 to .013cold,so according to crane's website I should add .006,because of alluminum heads. which means I'm getting .016-.019.correct?

I would go .020-.022 if I were you and then work it down from there.

I JUST BOUGHT SOME AFR HEADS FOR MY BIG BLOCK CHEVY AND THEY SAID THE HEAD GROWS ALOT MORE THAN THE REST OF THE VALVETRAIN SO YOU SHOULD SET THE LASH .006 TIGHTER WHEN COLD WHICH A .013 OR .014 WOULD PUT YOU AT .020 WHEN HOT. A GUY I KNOW PUT E-HEADS ON A FORD 428 AND SET THE LASH THE WRONG WAY (.006 LOOSER NOT TIGHTER) AND BENT A FEW PUSH RODS THE FIRST TIME HE REVED IT UP. lIKE GOATMAN SAID .020 TO .022 HOT IS WHERE YOU SHOULD END UP.

Should give you a good starting point. Just go easy on the motor untill you get it all figured out.

When I ran a solid w/ my E heads I set the lash at .019-.020. Ultradyne recommended .026 Hot and it was usually pretty close.

I wonder why all the valves are much tighter than this now?I'm getting lash readings of .005 on many of the valves?How would this affect the valvetrain?wouldnt it increase the cam overlap slightly?

Most solids have lash settings in the .020 to .030 range. Mine is .024 to .026. Since i run Eheads alos i set them at .019 & .021. You better find out what you have before you don't have it anymore.

I adjusted them to.013 cold and man is it noisey! I'm not sure if I like solids anymore.I then went back to what they were before .05 cold and the rockers are quiet and the motor revs faster???Im confused...

Thats a Hydraulic lifter. Go to zero lash then 1/4 turn more & lock her down.

Thanks for the compliment. Just check all the lobes to see if they have started to round. If all the lobes look good & the bottoms of the lifters do also put it back together.

You know I have been workin on pontiacs for almost 20 yrs now.......so truth be told... I AM STUPID! http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...s/icon_mad.gif I have never seen a hydralic lifter that looked like this one...oh wellllll..anyhow the motor is back together and the HYDRALIC lifters are adjusted and all are quiet.This 455 really runs now!14 inches of vacum at idle and a lopey idle... did a small power brake in reverse...HOLY CRAP....almost took out the garage door.roadtest coming soon.
