i have had alot of trouble with my 1966 pontiac starchief executive. when ever it rains or is damp, it seems like all the juice from my battery is drained and the car wont turn over. i have checked all of the grounds, i have replaced both battery cables, i have checked alternator, battery is new. every thing has checked out ok. any ideas to solve my problems would help.

every day is a good day to work on a pontiac

Make sure the connection to the starter is clean and tight.
Also that the block to starter is clean and tight.
There is a connection or union in the wiring harness just behind the alternator wiring, make sure it's ok and not corroded or broke. There's a fusible link in there too.Check it.

Just because the battery is new dos'nt mean its o.k.
I run into this all the time. (I mean with new parts).
There is a leak. However at 12 volts theres not much potential for arching in damp conditions.
I would start with the battery.
Did it do this with the old battery?
Is there any one part you replaced before this started happening?
Good Luck

Funny thing, I just had the same exact problem with my 98 Ram. Only when it was wet or damp outside it would not start. Battery cranked fine, etc, etc. I finally did a tune up on it and the the plugs were way out of gap and also the distributor rotor/contacts were corroded. Been running like a champ since then. So that is the place I would start.

1969 GTO convertible, starting it soon..............

In his question he said it has 'NO' power. I took that as meaning no cranking, lights etc.

Cap,ignition wires won't affect this.

But,if he does have cranking power, then I would look into those things.

Try a good starter or solenoid.
Also did you check the joint where the wires connect in the wiring loom?
