Have you checked the clearance under the valve covers? It doesn't appear that there are any spacers under there, and you will probably dent the '66 covers if you don't use them or at least thicker gaskets.

Thanks guys! No HP or Torque numbers as the engine was not dyno'ed. Jim Butler says it should be somewhere around 500 HP and 500 ft/lbs of torque at the flywheel. That's optimistic but it's what I'll tell the Ch*#y guys! I will never know now. May put it on a chassis dyno someday but not an engine dyno. Would have loved to do that but.. time and money always is a problem! The engine stand pictures were taken before the valve cover spacers were installed. They were put on before the engine was started the first time. They work well and allow me to use my original 66 valve covers. I like 66 covers better and it keeps it more stock looking... just don't look at the head numbers or the exhaust manifolds!!!

Thanks 66 GTO! I converted to front disk brakes and dual master cylinder a few years ago for safety reasons. I used the setup from Stainless Steel Brakes Corp as they were the only ones who carried a 14" conversion kit and I wanted to keep my Rallye Ones and I like the look of 14" tires on a 66 GTO. The brake system SSBC supplies uses 69 Camaro parts for the spindle assembly. Not sure about the booster. You think I would know since my wife has a 69 Camaro but I never looked! doh! I will check this weekend and see if they are the same.

I assume you used the stroker kit for a 400 block, correct? That is going to be a mean sleeper with the stock '66 valve covers. Don't worry about somebody seeing the head casting numbers, Chebby guys can't read anyway!! http://forums.performanceyears.com/g...s/icon_eek.gif

Thanks for the feedback. Here some answer's to questions:

1) to 66 GTO: The brake booster and master cylinder is from a 69 Camaro. Probably the same as a 69 Firebird. All available as new parts from many vendors.

2) to Goatseeker: It is a 389 kit not a 400 kit. Butler Performance and probably most others carry a 389 Stroker Kit. Jim Butler customizes it to your specific engine. Custom Ross pistons to meet your desired compression ratio at zero deck height based on what heads you use and their cc. I used 6X ported heads setup by KRE for 95 or 96 cc. So he sent flat top pistons setup for zero with my deck height of 10.215" after decking. This is why I recommend getting the Stroker Kit from a reputable vendor. Buying off eBay or the parts store, what Compression ratio will you get? Will the pistons be "in the hole"? etc. You don't know unless everything is designed for your specific application. Sorry for the long answer but I hope I can save someone some grief!

3) to ctgross: Yes, it is the new aluminum intake. I looked everywhere and it was sold out. Then I tried doing searches and found Ames had some in stock even though they did not list it anywhere! They are now "out of stock". Chris at PY says more coming this Spring and asks that you put you order in now. It is a huge difference in weight when you are moving it around or trying to install! Looks great too! I left it bare aluminum just to be different...

4) to Skip Fix: No, the waterneck is cast iron. Bead blasted and painted with clear to match the aluminum intake. The aluminum waterneck that was available with the aluminum intake was a 65 version. Not sure when 66 style will be available.
