Any suggestions on a heat shield for a stock starter on a 1970 GTO running Hooker headers? My starter is getting cooked!
Thanks for any advice.

I know most of the big parts suppliers have a heat shield. I's just a piece of sheet metal though. I'm not sure if it does much good.

Some late 70's Pontiacs came with starter heat shields. Most performance shops have or can order shields for your starter. Also available is a material that wraps around the starter to shield it. They also make wrapping for the headers. i also recommend a shield for the solenoid and a heat soak spring to put in the solenoid. Other alternative would be to go to a mini-starter, available through most racing suppliers. [email protected]

I have one that I will sell you for $5 I am not using it since mine starts fine without it. Email me if you are interested [email protected]
Oh it's an aluminum shield that goes over the solenoid between the header and starter.
