Im having difficulty installing my grills w/out sctratching the paint on the nose piece. Can the bottom grill bolts be attached to the nose piece off the car? Should I install the top first then bottom or vise versa?

I scratch the heck out of my nose piece. I need to put new gromments on the bottm. The grills are going to have come back out. I hope someone can help me out.

I just some small measure of success installing the grilles in my LeMans by attaching the grilles (loosely) to the nose piece, then put the whole assembly on the car, installing the bottom support last.

I'm not entirely sure that's the correct way to do it, but it worked for me!

I should of been more specific, How does one do this on a 66 lemans or GTO? 67 nose pieces are different if I remember correctly. Doesn't come around on the bottom like the 66 does...

http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_cool.gif My '67 was taken to the body & paint shop for it's restoration w/o the grill and header panel. I had decided it be best to have the new/NOS grille inserts, grill, and parking lamps assembled by me vs. someone else. So, once I got the header-panel back from the shop, I assembled it all and brought it to the shop where their assembler and I installed it all onto my newly painted goat. Now, i can't say we didn't chip the paint (just a tad between the side edges of the heaer panel and the inside of the fender) but it's very small and can be touched-up. Likely won't even be noticed unless one has a keen eye.

I agree with GTObully. Assemble the complete unit off the car and then install the complete unit onto the car. EJS67

Just did this on a friends car this weekend
Much simpler to but the unit together on the ground and then into the car leave every thing loose then install

Yeah, I know how on a 67 but what about for a 66. It's totally different because of the lower portion of the front end piece. Please help someone! Thanks

So no one knows how to do this for a 66? That's impossible some please respond!

Tape up the area's that COULD get scratched. And just be careful, take your time and use lots of patience. There is no set way to install grills. Just take your time.
