Mr. Gasket makes a "Pit Pac" that has the bushings in it for GTO shifters. I believe they cover the '64 too. I'll check my catalog when I get home tonight. I also believe they come in nylon (original style) which are quieter or metal (which makes for crisper shifts).

I don't understand Year1's problem. Your car came with a HURST SHIFTER. Just it is oem style not aftermarket. Which do you have. Still go metal.

I would guess the reason would he couldn't get in or out of gear WITHOUT CRAWLING UNDER IT. :D

All I've used were plastic bushings. I've locked the shifter between gears too many times. The last time was at Maple Grove. :mad: I talked to Pontiac Dude and he says "get rid of the plastic and use metal".

Bud, Puts a new meaning to "I've got a hangup" don't it. :D OEM shifters all had them. Metal is always better as there is not as much give to them.

I still don't understand Y1's problem in telling him that they only had them for "HURST" shifters. Y1, this isn't a C, with the MUNCIE "really hung up" SHIFTER. Does PY have them? I have not checked. CCass, are you there????? Sorry for the tirade. [img]redface.gif[/img]

Hurst Pit Pak PY #M33170 $11.00 7 CLIPS & 7 metal BUSHINGS. Now if we are talking about components to rebuild the shifter itself, that's a different story.

Isn't the bushing different between the factory shifter and the "over the counter" Hurst Competition Plus? On the factory shifter the rod itself goes into the shifter. On the aftermarket Hurst it is cylindrical portion of the screw on piece that goes into the shifter. I am not saying the aftermarket bushing won't work, just check it closely because the configurations are different.

OMT, I think you are right. Don't remember which is which, but one is threaded on the shifter linkage end and the other is threaded on the transmission lever end.

Moving to "64-72 GTO tech........."
