If it has OD it's either a 200-4R or 700R-4 depending on which engine it has.

not possible, g-bodies didnt come with 700-4r's.
not from the factory anyway.

A Bonneville isn't a G-body. If, by some chance it has a Chevy engine, it might be a 700. GM did some strange things during those years.

Formula428 02-20-2005 01:15 AM

Oh, the Monte Carlos had a 700, and they're a g-body. http://forums.performanceyears.com/g.../icon_razz.gif

Just crawl under the car and check out the pan.

a bonneville isnt a g-body?

the le mans/grand le mans (the pontiac version of the malibu), bonneville and the grand prix are all g-bodies. from years 1978-1987.

700 in a monte? not from the factory.

the reason i know this is because the 700r4 requires a shorter driveshaft than the 350,200, 2004r,400. ALL of these transmission can use the stock shaft and GM wasnt about to have two different size driveshafts for one kind of car. lots of people have put 700's in their g-body and every one of them had to get get their drive shaft shortened to make it fit. also requires a custom crossmember. they only had two cross members, those for the 3 speed, like the 200 and the 350, and one for the 2004r.

9 years of experience and havent seen a g-body from the factory with a 700r4. they came in f and b body cars, not g body

Formula428 02-20-2005 08:46 PM

The Bonneville is a B body or some such thing. It's along the same lines as the Caprice, Delta, etc.

I'm pretty sure I've seen Monte Carlo SS's with factory 700's.

G-BodyOwner 02-21-2005 08:10 AM

the bonneville ISNT a b-body, i've owned a b-body, the pontiac parisienne, THAT was pontiacs version of the b-body. my brother owned an 85 bonneville, which oddly enough had the same dash as my 85 grand prix, and had the same frame, and the same engine, and the same transmission. because its a four door doesnt mean its not a g-body.

and i'm sure my 9 years of g-body experience and not seeing a 700r4 in any g-body makes me feel pretty confident.

go to www.g-body.org
also go to groups.yahoo.com/group/gbody/
join up and ask them if a bonneville is a g-body. ask them if a 700 came in a monte from the factory.

http://www.montecarloss.com/SS_FAQ_5.html#4
go there...straight from the montecarloss.com site.

I checked it out on Mitchell On Demand. I stand corrected.

Back to the original post, a 200-4R ought to bolt up to a Pontiac engine, but it won't live very long if you get abusive.

Bill Eveland 02-21-2005 03:10 PM

That won't bolt up to your 455 without an adapter plate, the chevy engine/trans has a differant bolt pattern than the BOP trans cases.
If you want a 200r4 with a BOP pattern, find an olds 307 of the same vintage in a Cutlass.

G-BodyOwner 02-21-2005 04:04 PM

200-4r's come with two different kind of cases, one with BOP only pattern, and one with dual pattern for BOP and chevy.

either bolts up to a BOP engine.

still might wanna beef it up, they dont last long behind true performance engines but can handle them once properly built.
