What are the BEST headers if my friend puts a 455 with Edelbrock heads into a 66 Lemans? This is a 600 plus HP engine looking for 10 sec pass in a 3700 lb car. Brand and size??
I just want to confirm my ideas.

Bob, One of my sources said Hedmans fit that chassis well but the ones they checked were 1.75" diameter versions. I suspect that car will need at least 1.875". I do not have any other experience but will ask around. I know others on this site have done this before so I expect you will see many good suggestions. (Gach, what did you use on the GTO you helped with?)
(Bob, I reread my notes and the car they had put the Hedmans on was a 67. Not sure I can say that I know the 66 and 67 were identical; I seem to remember they are not. Sorry for the wrong information).

Try Tom Dawson Racing He did my tri-steps for my high compression 455 ram IV heads were a work of art and reasonable. His # is 1-909-928-0969i.e. he has a lot of experience with pontiacs!

Bob, I just went through some of the same issues with my car. It is a 70 gto with 455 and E-heads. The only two headers I found available was Hooker round ports and Hedman Hustler round ports. The Hookers have 2" primaries (pt # 4201-1 for my car), I ordered and sent back due to poor quality for 450.00.
Hedman makes a 1 3/4" primary and the quality was much better. Other than those two you may have to go to a custom header. Seems like Edelbrock would come out with an application.

Hooker does not make a round port header for the 64-67 chassis. 68-72 version will not fit! Hedman Husler makes a set in either 1.875" or 2" with a flat collector.

Any body have a set of factory ram air type headers they want to get rid of I heard these were the best for a street car.

Hedman #35030 for 64-67 A body with round port heads 2" primary/ 3 1/2" collector.

KO has the answer. I run 2" hedman's with my d-ports (630 HP) If your running a victor intake and dominator - i would go 2" - seems to have a good balance.

There really is no choice (next to custom) for round port headers. 1 7/8"-2" is the norm. I have used big tube headers with no loss of low end. Actully seemed to be faster everywhere 60', 1/8th etc.

I have a set of round port "Headers by Ed" that are 1 7/8" on a '64 Tempest with E-heads. That is the largest he makes. They are outstanding headers, but very pricey. I believe they are now about $900, and they usually take a few months to get. If you are interested, I have a lot of pictures scanned to show how they fit.

If you are looking for the best header you can buy and are made, just for your car, round port or d port. Headers by Ed are the best you can get No qustions asked. The are sometime in the HP pontiac mag.Not Cheap. They made me a set many years ago which I still have,Number 7&8 go outside the chassis, through the wheel wells. This header was on my 65 GTO with round port heads. Nuniz helped with this car and also used this headers on some of his cars.
