Paint code for 215 interior color
 

64 GTO I changed from a parchment interior to code 215 dark blue interior. I am having a hard time getting the right blue. We scanned a door panel but it looks too grey. If anyone has the dupont code for the dark blue interior I would surely appreciate it.

I'm Doyles body/paint guy. I thought I would send some pictures,if that helps.
I think the big question is are the dash and garnish supposed to match the vynil color?The test panel on the left is the origanal paint match from the first mix.The center panel has some blue added.The right panel is some sem shadow blue that the guy who rebuilt the stering column said was supposed to match the dash.Anybody out there with a dark blue interior that has not been repainted?If so does the dash match the vynil?

Jim, I'm in the process of a frame-off on my 64 convertible...blue interior. I noticed that the paint on the doors and dash does seem to have a metallic element to it. I have also seen resto jobs where some dull supposedly correct blue paint was applied and it looked lousy. The paint on mine is still in pretty good shape, but not good enough to keep if we're going to all the trouble of a frame-off. Does your paint have the metallic look to it? It seems to be a pretty "deep" looking paint.

65 Interior Paint Codes
 

Here's the PPG pontiac interior paints codes for 65. The gloss colors are 60% gloss. Hope this helps.

I have the same color interior. I still don't understand which color code from the attached chart that is for a blue interior. There are 2 blues for 60 degree gloss but only one for 0 degree gloss. By the way, where is the break between the 60 degree gloss and 0 degree gloss on the dash

the breaks between the low gloss and high gloss are where the brown and cream meet.dont know how to make the paint lil64gto recommended flatter for the top of the dash,as its laquer,but i'll let you know if i figure it out.

Sorry everyone, I haven't been around to be checking the thread.

It does have a metalic type look to it, but I don't really think that it is. The deepness look is lightened after rubbing it out, because it is a laquer paint. These pictures are prior to rubbing it out.

Has anyone figured out a code or formula for modern 215 paint? Interior is almost ready for paint. Thanks!

We wound up using nason acrylic enamel, the code on the can is P1964ie, doyle was happy with it. You might try your local dupont dealer, nason's made by dupont. I don't remember if it had to be tinted,

Call Autocolorlibrary.com at 858-909-2150 and ask for Jimmy Chips (not his real name...I think it's James). He is very knowledgable and has the original color charts for A body interiors. He can mix your paint in enamal or lacquer and send it to you (the original was lacquer, but enamel wears better). I went with lacquer because I wanted it to be true to the original. The paint he sent me is right on the money. They even have the flat paint that goes on top of the dash like the original.

I have ordered the dark blue poly colors, #12754 0% gloss upper dash, #12737 60% gloss bottom dash, for the 1964 GTO that I am restoring. This is correct according to the charts, however the paint for the lower dash, #12737 looks too dark. It is a super dark blue metallic that is darker than the seats, door panels and carpet. Is this right? All pictures I've seen of the 215 interior has the look of a lighter blue on the bottom. Also, what color should the steering wheel be? Should it also be this darker blue color? Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The steering wheel on my car is original and it looks the same as PecoBill's wheel, which is pictured above.

I would take a piece of metal, such as an extra glove box cover, and paint it with the new paint and see how it compares to your existing glove box cover. It there is a substantial difference, mail both of them to Jimmy Chips and he will determine what's going on. I did that with him when I was refurbishing my heater core box and he was able to match the original paint perfectly (BTW, it's not black, it's a dark gray with a hint of olive).

My steering wheel, and any other blue 64 that I've seen, is blue, but the color nowhere near matches anything else on the car. It may be from too many years in the sun. It's really hard to tell just what it looked like in 1964. If it's cracked you could send it to Gary's Steering Wheel Restoration in Pennsylvania for refurbishing. He would probably know the correct color. He did a wonderful job for me on a 64 Sport Wood Wheel. But be prepared to shell out some major bucks. He told me that restoring one of the plastic wheels was infinitely harder than restoring one of the faux wood ones and cost about 3x as much!

The duller goes on top of the dash for glare reasons,

the 60% goes on the lower portion and above the door panels on the doors and rear
yes there is a little metallic in it for the blue.

The two diff gloss is how I believe it is correct for a two tone.

otherwise on mine I believe it is all 60% met blue when one color on the dash is used. You can gloss it up but would not look right for "factory" plus it keeps the glare down from the sun.
