65 GTO Throttle Cable

Does anyone know the difference in length between a 65 GTO Tripower with a four speed and an automatic? I bought a used throttle cable to replace the one that was lost(I put it away so I wouldn't loose it) during frame off restoration and it appears to be too short.

Thanx,

Don

I don't think there is any difference. I also think a 4bbl cable is also the same.

1965 GTO Throttle Cable

On Page 333 of the GTO restoration guide it gives the part numbers to two different throttlle cables for the 65 - Manual 9781587 and Automatics 9779930

Thanx,

Don

i suppose a 6 cyl car would be even different yet?

haven't got that far with my clone yet, but will be soon :D

Don, my reply was based on memory and experience. I have bolted many tripowers on 4bbl auto cars with no problems. Also converted a couple of 4bbl auto cars to tripower 4 speed cars, and never had to change the throttle cable. Now this is from memory from well over 15 years ago, so take it so what it is worth. I can't see why their would be any difference in an auto or manual car.

I dont beleive the cable need be different, what is different is the spot where the end of the cable terminates on the throttle arm on a 2 bbl vs. a 4 bbl.

What was different from the factory is the bracket. There are different brackets for Tripower (2 barrels) and 4 barrels.

On a 2 bbl (tripower) it holds the cable farther forward toeards the front of the car (carb) then on a 4 bbl.

If you try to hook up a stock 4 bbl cable and bracket on a tripower your cable will appear too short.
