WOW
Based on some recomendations from this board, I had Wayne Schicantek in Milwaukee WI rebuild the engine from my 67 GTO. I picked up the engine last week, installed it, and Wayne came down to my house to supervise the initial start up and fine tuning. Engine runs beautifully and Wayne is a pleasure to work with and does outstanding work. I would recommend him to anyone who is in need of engine work! My car has an entirely different personality. Mostly stock with some mild porting and polishing and roller rockers.

Wayne rocks!!! Built mine almost 3 yrs ago and damn near 150- 200 passes down the strip and 5000+ miles till running tops!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does he specialize in Pontiacs?
|
Yes, he will build other engines but does build a lot of Pontiacs
|
If it's not too personal of a question, can you share with us how much your rebuild cost? If you'd rather not say that's OK.
A friend of mine has his engine at Wayne's right now. He's paying ~$2500 for a basic rebuild and Wayne is supplying a set of heads for that price. His engine is being bored 0.040 over, new pistons, cam, bearings, etc. Reusing his crank and rods. |
Mine was more than $2500 around $4000. I had porting and polishing done as well as a roller rockers which meant new pushrods, rocker studs. I supplied the heads but they required valve job, resurfacing, new valves and springs. I reused my crank and rods as well.
As I said Wayne is easy to work with and I was thrilled that he would drive 90 miles each way to supervise the initial start up! |
Sounds like a test ride is required to verify the performance....:)

Will have everything back together very soon, dorve a littel yesterday without the fron grill or bumper! I will get you that ride soon! |
$4000 seems like a pretty reasonable price for that work. I'm leaning towards pulling my motor/trans this fall and having it all gone through. It had a budget rebuild years ago and there's really nothing wrong with it now but I feel like I could get more out of it and also feel more confident that it won't all explode when I hammer on it if it was redone by someone who knows what they are doing.

Wayne did my machine work and supplied me with a set of heads. His price was entirely reasonable and he is a great guy to work with. Everything was done on time and exactly to the price estimated beforehand. I would recommend Wayne to anyone.

How about posting on the "Business Entities" forum about your satisfaction? Many of us read that forum to learn about good/bad experiences.
Just my two cents. That's impressive- that your engine builder would travel to your place for start-up and tuning! |
Wayne's done 3 engines for me. All good! :)
