66 VENTURA DISC CONVERSION

HI GUYS; I AM A FIRST TIMER ON THE FORUM, I HAVE A 66 2DR. VENTURA, 389 2BBL . I AM INSTALLING A 400 WITH TRI-POWER. MY BIG PROBLEM IS THE BRAKES. I WANT TO CONVERT TO FRONT DISC, BUT NONE OF THE CONVERSION SHOPS CARRY KITS FOR BIG BODY PONTIACS. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF ANY SHOPS THAT CARRY THE CONVERSION KITS FOR A 66 PONTIAC AUTO TRANS CAR. OR HAS A TRIED AND TRUE COMPLETE LIST OF THE PARTS AND YEARS OF PARTS TO DO A BONEYARD CONVERSION? ANY AND ALL HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED

You can swap in disk brakes from a 69-70 full size Pontiac if you can find them, the problem there is the rotors are nearly impossible to find new. The most popular choice these days is using one of Scarebird's disk brake kits: http://www.scarebird.com/12802/21632.html

Do a search in this forum, there have been numerous discussions on this kit and I believe there are some photos of the installation as well.

One option is to use 69/70 full size Pontiac disk brake spindle assemblies. Use the master and proportioning valve for a 69/70 full size disk brake also. It's all bolt on. As of 5 years ago the rotors and calipers were available new.

Disk brakes were fairly common on 69/70 full size Pontiacs. Look for Bonnevilles as almost all of then are disk cars.

Good luck!

OK. Stuart can type faster and has more up to date info on the rotor availability.

I have a friend that used a scarebird conversion on a Mopar and was very pleased with the results.

Those two pretty much summed it up. If you're interested, I'm thinking about selling my Scarebird brackets....

There's a description of the 69-70 disk brake swap over on the Full Size Pontiac Club website, at http://www.fullsizepontiacs.com/fsptech.htm. The swap is being done on a 61-62 big car, but the procedure would be pretty much the same for a '66.
