CD player jam
I have a 2005 Silverado, used. There is a CD jamed inside the player. I hit eject, it makes a grinding noise like it is trying to eject but it won't, and I know there is one in there, cause I tried to use it and it ate it, It didn't even play. I don't think this is a easy 5 minute fix, has anyone had the dash or radio apart on one of these yet? Sounds like a dealer job?

I had the same thing happen on my Yukon and I gave up on it. The other week I left the interior lights on overnight and killed the battery. After I boosted it with my GTO battery the CD player started working and ejected the CD.
So maybe try something quick and easy like disconnecting your battery - it won't cost you anything. Glen. |
I had it happen in my 2002 Tahoe. Like rowling said, try pulling the fuse or disconnecting the battery for a minute or two, then re-connect. It worked for me - spit it right out.

Try and insert another CD, it might just eject the "stuck" one.

I usually take another disc and poke around in there. It usually pops out after a couple trys...2006 Silverado.

Was it a store bought cd or a cd-r made on a computer with one of those stick on labels? If it was the latter, the stick on labels can wreak havoc with slot loading drives.

Re-boot your Silverado
Disconnecting the battery and re-connecting sounds like a good idea.
Completely separate problem for me recently was the light in my very expensive oven at home, it was going on and off like it was completely going nuts. There is no on and off switch so I killed the breaker to that circuit. Turned it back on and the problem went away. I may be the only person that has re-booted their oven, like we sometimes have to do with our doggoned personal computers ! |
Well I tried the batty disconect idea, it tried to eject but wouln't. I did eventually get the cd out with a couple of butter knives last night. Today I disconect the battery again but nothing further happened, it won't take a cd when I try to put one in. I think it is up to a professional stereo shop from here.

It is a simple job to replace the radio. Just pry the dash surround loose, Then compress the release levers on either side of the unit, pull it out and disconnect the wiring. You can probably get a unit from the local junkyard or try a radio shop that pulls stock units to install upgrades. I got one on e-bay for $35.00. |
