man brake conversion

does anyone know who makes a direct bolt in kit to take the power brakes out and put a manual brake step in?i was on some g body site and one guy did one in his malibu, you had to do this , you had to cut that, you had to fabricate this....,i want a kit as easy as possible that works,i dont want to find out at 135 mph that it doesnt!

I have the kit shown on my Cutlass (Pontiac Powered).

The rest of the brakes system is rebuilt stock with the exception of braided front lines and aluminum rear drums.

My "front" line goes threw the line lock then to a splitter mounted on the center of the cradle.

This way the front line are the same length. That may not matter but makes me feel better, being "type A" .

The rear brakes are direct also ( no proportioning valve) but they go threw a 10# residual valve.

The pedal is firm and stops well, but I have "only" tested it to 131 mph. ;)

INEXSPENSIVE manual conversion suggestion...

I was over on another forum asking about a inexpensive way to convert the power brakes on a "G-Body" to manual ones for drag racing. Here is the link that someone shared with me on how a few have been done.Don't know for sure personally of how well it holds up,builder claimed it has no issues, you be the judge on that, but sure beats the big money for the others I have seen.Click link to view another method.

Have you ever thought about using the master cylinder/self contained system like the GN's use (I don't mean the earlier hydoboost system)? Thats what I run on my Regal race car and as it has its own air pump (doesn't need any vacuum source) so you can run any size camshaft/lift/duration and it will not effect the brakes but will stand the car on its nose if required. My Regal won't run 131 mph but it will run 127 mph and I can stall it to 3200 rpm or so before the torque of the motor over rides the brakes. If you were to go with this system you would also need the plate that this system bolts to as the 4 studs on the back side of the plate will match the 4 stud holes your current system uses to bolt to your firewall. Just another option.

Thanks for the tip,do you have any pics of what yours is like?Where did you find yours at?So it is a self-contained system,If its stopping your car, I'm sure I'll be fine.I ordered one of the 4 bolt adapters plates from MasterPower today,I still got some time before I commit to one way of doing mine so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Sorry, but I some how missed this post until now and have sold my race Regal so I can not provide any pictures of my braking system. I bought my system at the Buick nationals but they come up for sale on E-bay and on the turbobuick web site. If you do buy this system second hand be sure it comes with the switches required mounted on the master cylinder assy.

talked to trz, went with them thanks for the help guys, they have some other pretty good g-body stuff, looks like i,ll be getting more from them. a antiroll bar is next

ONEFASTLEMANS 04-19-2009 12:00 AM

hey! to the guys that have the trz brake kit,how far did you guys adjust the rod that they give you?high pedal , low?

ONEFASTLEMANS 06-07-2009 08:11 AM

well i put the kit in and took the car to the track on memorial day weekend, had to take the last return road every run,not too bad to stop, but if i go to a track other than pittsburgh raceway or norwalk,i might have a problem, what suggestions for stopping this alittle better ?and rotor upgrades?i was told by a old school guy to use smaller bore wheel cylinders for more pressure?
