1975 OEM gauge cluster questions
I have a 1975 455 4 speed car I am restoring. The gauge cluster looks to be incorrect, the speedo is 160 mph, and the tach is 8000 rpm. Are either of these correct for a 1975 Trans am ? Everything else in the dash is original such as radio , 8 track player etc, so it has not been a torn apart car. What speedo and tach should be in this car , the 100 mph speedo, and the 6 K tach ? TIA, Craig

What is the tach redline? What are the readings on the water temp gauge?
|
the redline starts at 5750 and goes all the way to 8000 (of course). The water temp is 100, 220, 260. The other thing I am wondering is , my 160 speedo has the two holes at bottom for the brake light, and the fasten seat belt light,as the 75 -79 100 MPH speedos are. All the 160 speedos I have seen only have a rectangular single hole for the brake light. Any idea what I have, did the factory make the 160 speedo with the two indicator light holes ? Craig

The speedo in your car came in mid 1972-1974 Firebirds. The speedo with the single brake warning lamp came in 1970-early 1972 Firebirds.
1975 Firebirds would have come with a 100 MPH speedometer. |
How early in the '75 model year was the car assembled? The 100 220 260 suggests a '74 package (maybe late '73).

I have a 100 MPH speedo out of a 75 Formula if you need it, the rest of the of the cluster is in my 74 with my 160 speedo. |
