Rear disc brake gear ratio

I am looking at a 79 and 80 TA for parts and both have rear disc brakes.
I just want the posi unit to put in a non rear disc brake rear end.
Were the rear disc brake gear ratios the same or could you get any gear ratio?
The 79 had a 403 Olds, the 80 had a regular 301 engine.
Thanks

I believe the standard 1979 WS6 rear ratio was 2:73 (which most had),but have documented several 79's with optional 3:23's

As I recall,3:08's were mandatory for all 80-81 WS6's

Thanks for the info.
Even the 2:73 ratio could be changed to 3:90 without a ring gear spacer then, correct?

i may be wrong here but it was my belief that the 2.41 and 2.73 were in a class of their own. . .requiring spacers to upgrade.

Correct, the 241/256 carrier requires a spacer to run lower gears. 273 down everything fits.

For cruising & a bit of spirited street driving, the spacer should be OK,but if you are planning ANY serious drag racing, you should just start with the correct series carrier. JMO
