400\455 into '62 Chevy dually
 

What would it take to drop in a Pontiac 455 into a '62 Chevy? This is a one ton dually with a 4 speed and granny low first gear. Besides motor mounts and driveshaft, etc, wondering about the bellhousing\transmission matching up.

Anybody got any ideas?

Chevy bellhousing won't bolt up. Have to use a BOP. Some of the wiring will be a bit different. Starter is on opposite side of chevy as is alternator is memory serves. Biggest things will be the mounts other than that should be cake. I put a '77 400 into a '71 c/20 piece of cake all in all.

I think, and it's been several years, that a dual pattern lakewood or similar blowproof bell will work for this.

I don't remember what mounts we used in the one I installed either. Mounts will be the easy part of this. Finding the correct bellhousing will be the issue

all you need is a pontiac bellhousing. and problem solved on that part.

So a BOP bellhousing will bolt up to that tranny? That's good news, thanks.

I'd check it first, the one I did the pattern was different form the bell.

10-4, this is a back burner project for now as it just got a small block swap. Hopefully the small block will be stout enough but if not then I'd look into the Pontiac mill. I'm thinking about the future for not only this truck but also a GMC suburban that may show up in the driveway.

The lakewood bellhousing will slove your issue as well as make a stronger support setup for the engine/trans combo. But I'd look at a mid plate set up because if I remember right there is no support between the engine mounts and tranny mount.
