Are there any issues with using an automatic tranny with this block.

None whatsoever.

The engine code legend indicates auto or manual, so I thought maybe there was some hook-up issues.
Is $400 a good price.

If your looking for a good pre-75 400 block, then you prolly could find one for 1-200 cheaper. If you are looking specifically for a 70, WT block, then yeah, that is a decent deal.

i bought an intake to pan 68 400 for 300.00

I bought a 76 manual tranny trans am 400 motor (actually a pretty rare motor as 30,000+ TA's had autos and 5500 400engineTA's had a manual that year) two weeks ago for $100.00 intake to pan. Yes, it is the suspect 557, but was code/casting and date correct for my 76 400 4-speed TA...


Anyway, 400 for just the block is prolly a little high, unless the casting/code (WT), date, etc., mean something to you...

GTOLou, can you share the Motor Unit Number directly above the WT as well as the original vehicle's VIN? Was the flywheel still bolted to it?

Rocky - it is a WY motor. AND, it was from a 400, four speed formula. He pulled the flywheel before selling it to me. He's prolly still got it...?


I wasn't sure about getting it, but your research helped w/ the fact that WT AND WY motors were found in 4 speed 76 TA's.

If you still need the number, I can get it...maybe not since it is from a formula? Let me know..

If it's a WY block, it would have had a small register flywheel with an 11-inch diameter clutch disc.

I'm still trying to determine the crossover point the change occurred so the MUN and VIN on your block might help narrow it down.
