Microsoft Office 07 Question - Word
Look at the pic below. This is how it appears when I simply open a new Word doc.

Yeah, I've used all the prior office programs for years. Back to windows 3.1. I bought this one and after two hours I uninstalled it, and went back to Office 2002. Besides, I no like the cartoonish look it has.. Call me old, but there is a reason sometimes I keep what works for me. Mike

You are in the right ribbon tab. Have you tried clicking on Margins and then go to Custom Margins. Check the three tabs under the box called Page Setup. See if that helps.

Yep, office 2007 sucks. For whatever reason, microsoft won't leave well enuf alone. They can't add "features" without changing the user interface.
Go to "page layout" in the menu bar and then "size" , obviously for size, and "margins". I don't know if it'll default to those settings next time but there's prob some way to set the defaults. I also tried 2007 but quickly removed it and went back to 2003. 2007 is on my work computer tho. George |
Ive been to the margins tab. Set it to default and even changed it to the Office 03 option it gives you. No luck.
Even if I change the margins for a new doc, it still does it. Nothing changes. I hate and I mean this in the true sense of the word, HATE Office 07. Its on my work laptop and I cant change it. Funny, Publisher is a part of Office 2007 and its functionality is the same as previous Office versions. |
I am no wiz at Word and I continue to use an even older version than most. Biggest gripe I have, folks have started to use the new versions of Word & Excel and send attachments of the .docx and .xlsx files which of course cannot be opened by those of us that use the older version. I'm told they can save in the older version, but it is a pain when they forget.
Not sure what you want to change. Do you want the Paper Size to be 7 1/2 x 9 instead of 8 1/2 x 11? Do you want the Paragraph Alignment to be Centered instead of Justified? What is it you want it to do? |
Okay,
Try this... Click on the Margins on the Page Layout tab as you show in the pic. Click on Custom Margins and, set them as you want / need. At the bottom of that window, there should be a drop down menu where you can save the changes. The other option in this field is "From this point forward". Use that option. It should then save the margin selection for future docs. Hope that helps. Also, the Help files are quite good so, give them a try. All your answers are in there. I've been using Office 2007 for a while now, and love it. Once you get used to it, it really is much more productive. Change isn't always a bad word.... `joe |
I don't have this specific form of Office. Colleges aren't usually the newest ones to convert to anything new. However, this link should help you at least look over what is going on and how to fix it:
http://us20.trymicrosoftoffice.com/default.aspx I have often hit the "Help" tab in Microsoft and completed searches to figure out how to change settings that are default on any Microsoft product. Often times, under Tools, you can customize your settings. I hope this helps you. It can be very very frustrating when you can't get things to work the way you want them to. |

I did try the help files but got frustrated and gave up. Didnt see that "From this point forward" thing |
Now that I look back on your settings... are you using an European version? Europeans use different paper sizes than we do here and your size sounds familiar... just wondering.

Alrighty,,,
Let's try this. Open Word. CLick on the "Page Layout" Tab. Click on the small button in the lower right corner as seen in the attachment. That will open the default page setup window. Set your margins to whatever you need and click on the "Default" button at the bottom left. You will get prompted with a message that basically states " Do you want to change the default settings for page setup". Click on "Yes". I think that will do it for you. Let me know. `joe |
