Reclining seat Positioning unit
 

Need some input re:

How does it operate?

Combination of spring pull and hydraulics or just spring pull?

Seems to be bound up. Neither shaft moves at all.

Have it soaking right now to see, there may be some internal issues with rust I cannot see.

It does not appear to have any issues EXCEPT it won't actuate.

The cable is fine as well as the trip mechanism that is attached to the "positioning" unit as it is called in the book. The plunger shafts that you can see from where the trip notch is are shiney and smooth with no signs of rust or pitting.(PICTURE # 3)

Any help here guys?

Rolled up the sleeves and gotter done !!

Mostly just some minor clogging, rust, paint, media material from when the seats were medial blasted for paint.

Soaked the crap out of the unit with carb cleaner(good paint stripper) wd40, tool oil, white lithium, liquid wrench, ANYTHING in the cupboard that I thought would help.

Here is what I found.

It is just a spring mechanism.

I started by twisting the male shaft(no comment) until it broke loose a little and just started working it until I got it to rotate in place, little by little got more movement until I got the spring plunger to operate correctly.

Re flushed 2x's more then the final lube, wipe down and re install into seat.

Good work on the seat. Now you are probably the expert on reclining seat refurbs and I know where to send mine! Everything looks terrific and keep those pics coming.

Knowing what I know now, you best call me and I will tell you how.

Lets see ??? Shop rates----$75.00 per hour----- 2.5 hours on just the actuator----$187.50 just for the spring/thinngie to work right.

If I had to pay for all this crap I would never be able to finish this car.

Sounds like the early units aren't much different from the ones they used in the mid 90's.
