Chevy truck conversion
 

I have a 81 3/4 ton 2wd. I want to convert to 4wd. Local yard has a 84 1/2 ton 4wd. Said if I pulled the body I could have the rolling chassis minus engine for $500. This includes front and rear ends(3.08 gears), transfer case, Trans(700r4), drive shafts and any miscallaneous parts I may need. I don't know how clean the frame is, haven't looked at it close enough yet. I was wondering if the 1/2 ton parts would bolt onto the 3/4 ton frame if the 1/2 ton frame is bad?

There's quite a bit of difference between 2wd to 4wd frames, mainly the front cross member under the engine. They are riveted together from the factory & takes some work to convert.

I think the trans tunnel is also different from 2wd to 4wd. You'll need the 4wd tunnel & have to do some cutting/welding on your floor boards to to the swap.

You'd be better off in the long run buying a 4wd truck & sell your 2wd.:2cents:

I've done the 2wd to 4wd cab conversion as mentioned here. not too bad, but the center part of the 4wd floor is higher and would have to be welded into the 2wd cab floor.

Up until last year, I had a 77 chevy 4wd frame with axles and transfer case I had a hard time getting rid of. It sat for 2 years with no takers. JOHN
