Does anyone know the best way to verify if the vacuum headlight switch is good or not on a 1968 GTO with hideaway headlights

Does anyone have advise on what to lubricate the vacuum actuator piston in the hidden headlight actuator on a 1968 GTO, it does go up and down with shop-vac vacuum but it seams that if it were lubricated (grease, vaseline, oil) that it would work smoother,
