Trans Swap
 

I ran across this old post while doing a search.
I'm in the process of rebuilding My '68 LeMans Convertible.
The Car came with a 300 2 speed, and I going to put in a TH 400 short tail.
Looks like our sponsor only sells 3 cross members.

64-72 hardtop
64-67 convert
68-72 convert

So I should be alright with the same cross member. Part # 9796242 just move it to the right set of holes in the frame.

The same crossmember works for all transmissions. Installation of the TH400 requires that it be moved back 6" from the position originally used for the ST300.

Trying to keep the cost of this project down as much as I can.

You will need a different flywheel too. At least I did when I swapped the same tranny's. Different driveshaft also.

Thank you Shiney. I have a SFI flywheel for the project,but I bet it's something that would be overlooked.
I also have a few drive shafts here . Do you remember the measurement.

That was good planning on the flywheel. When I did mine I did not know I needed a different one and had to have it overnighted from the parts place $$$$. I don't remember the length of the drive shaft, but I looked in my 1968 service manual page 4C-1 and it lists it as 55.34 inches for a 2-door tempest with a turbo-hydramatic trans. It doesn't say whether that's a 350 or 400 TH.

can you let me know what you come up with to make it work. I'll be doing same swap in the near future

I think I'm going to wait until after the trans is in and just measure the drive shaft.
