Trans Swap

Looks like our sponsor only sells 3 cross members. 64-72 hardtop 64-67 convert 68-72 convert So I should be alright with the same cross member. Part # 9796242 just move it to the right set of holes in the frame. I'll post this in the 68 69 forum also. Thanks in advance.

The same crossmember works for all transmissions. Installation of the TH400 requires that it be moved back 6" from the position originally used for the ST300.

You will need a different flywheel too. At least I did when I swapped the same tranny's. Different driveshaft also.

That was good planning on the flywheel. When I did mine I did not know I needed a different one and had to have it overnighted from the parts place $$$$. I don't remember the length of the drive shaft, but I looked in my 1968 service manual page 4C-1 and it lists it as 55.34 inches for a 2-door tempest with a turbo-hydramatic trans. It doesn't say whether that's a 350 or 400 TH.

Thanks again shiney. Thats what I came up with after a search.
I think I'm going to wait until after the trans is in and just measure the drive shaft. Thanks again .
