Need help with turn signal dimmer lever removal
I have a 79 with tilt colum and of course the turn signal lever has the cruise and dimmer switch all in one. The manual says to simply pull the lever straight out. No way it is comming out, I have pulled until I am afraid I might break something and it wont budge. Can anyone give me some help? Thanks

I have a 79 Formula, no cruise control... the lever has a detent lock that
rotates into locked position inside the turn signal/dimmer switch. here's a link/photo of the lever ends posted by Ollie: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...1&d=1280843947 from a thread where several members here helped me go through the process... http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...=640673&page=3 basically, it should be: twist to unlock the detent, then pull out... |
Thanks I was able to get it by pulling as hard as I could and while pulling twisting it. I had tried to turn and then pull but that wouldn't work it had to be under pressure and twisted.

That is good to know. But doesn't help when the tip is broken off flush with the canceling cam inside the steering column.

If you take apart the column and remove the upper collar/housing...you can knock out the lever with a center punch.
If you break the mechanism.....you can get that from any other GM car from 78-83...so don't worry about breaking it.....very easy to swap out. |
