Shaker not centered
 

1977 T/A with 403. Have what is believed to be original shaker and breather assembly. It is off-set about 1/4-1/2 inch towards the passenger side. Ordered a different complete assembly from Texas TA's that was supposed to be off of a 403 car and I have the same result. When I first got the car I did not notice this, but it came straight off of the car hauler into the resto shop. Full restoration and now it's noticeable. Any idea's.

Does it have a broken motor mount?

My guess would be a collapsed motor mount. The pass side gets all the torque crunch.

Does not appear to be. The one thing I did notice while under it today is that the drive shaft seems to have a slight angle towards the passenger side. Could the wrong motor mounts have been used? Is there a left and right and would the holes in the motor allow them to be switched?

The shaker on a 403 is naturally offset to the passenger side.

If you look in the tunnel the driveshaft is also offset toward the passenger side even on Pontiac motors.

The mount pads that bolt to the engine crossmember are NOT sided.

I've looked at alot of 79's with 403 on the internet over the years, and many of them had the shaker a little to the passenger side. So, it's not just you.
My unrestored 112K 79 has the shaker about 3/8 over.

I don't know if the front sheet metal could be centered better with the frame and body when putting it together. There is some play where the bolts go through the body mounts.

If the front end is as good as you can get it, and you must have it centered, you could remove the adapter plate from the bottom of the shaker and shift the plate over enough to center it, drill new holes in the plate and reattach it. You'd just reposition the plate 1/2 the distance that you're off of course. In my case, 3/16.

Wait till you notice "the single guy sag on the front drivers corner" and the shifted rear end.Nothing ever stayed straight on these cars for too long.

What do you mean by the shifted rear end?
