Something is strange here... Is yours a TI or std I tach?

I saw the picture out of the manual you posted.

I always thought the distinguishing things between the '63 and '64 tach was that the '63 "RPM/Hundreds" was curved and the '64 "RPM/Hundreds" was straight. But, I assumed this for the standard ignition tachs. I am not sure about the 'TI tachs.

I have a '64 dated(stamped in back) tach with a straight "RPM/Hundreds" on the face. It has the correct knob (for '63 and '64" ). But, you say the '62 tachs had "straight lettering". Did someone change the internal face plate on my '64 "back in the day" to a '62? I am curious?

Anybody else have a '64 with a straight lettering of "RPM/Hundreds" on the face?? Please chime in......

How did you get the bezel ring off without breaking the little tabs that hold it on?

Followup tech question: if you (or I, in this case) DO break off those tabs, will clear silicone (or ???) hold it on OK?

Please carify what you mean about the curved vs straight printing...you mean "RPM" and "HUNDREDS", right? I assume that the numerals are all laid out on a curve.

Matt ,tape the end of the bezel, then use a 5" hose clamp to install it right on the edge of the bezel by the tabs. Gentley bend the tabs a little at a time, the hose clamp will also keep the bezel from distorting. Dont think silicone would work because a rubber washer is in between and the tabs hold a little pressure.The RPM & HUNDREDS are arched on the face of the 63/64 tach.

My 65-66 tach needed the needle and lens fixed, so I recently took it apart. What a mess it was. It had been repaired once, and the redline needle had a screw tapped into it. It didn't rotate without moving the glass. I got it to look and work better than before, but still not happy. I'm sending it out to APT in Bloomington, MN before I break something and really muck it up.

They do good work. I had them fix the Pontiac tach I installed in my car (since my car is a 1961 they didn't have a factory tach that year so I used a newer one, although I don't recall what year it is exactly.) They've done some motorcycle speedos for me as well.
