Power Windows
They go up rather slow. Both do. Is this normal? I can believe that both motors would go bad at the same time. Been like this since I bought the the car earlier this year.
|
MY 10000 mile 2000 Ram Air Conv had the drivers side lockup a few years ago . Cheap parts tend to do that. Really nothing more to say.
|
It is not the motor going bad, but the diode that keeps the window from crushing a body part that is going bad. When the motor is under a load the diode heats up and cuts the power to stop the window from working. As the diode ages it doesnt work as well. You can cut the diode out and wire the motor without it and the windows will go up and down Really fast, but you also loose the safety feature. Or just replace the motor with a new one.
|
Based on feedback, is it safe to understand that the motors are going bad?
|
Short version the window motor unit as a whole is going bad.
|
Ok, if I have the door panel of (fixing the pre-panel crack issue), I might as well replace the motor. Who has a decent motor and not ebay junk.
This is one reason why I want to sell the car. The whole thing as a whole just seems fragile. Maybe its just me. |
They go bad in every single firebird. Honestly, GM replacements are no better than some other overseas ones. And cheaper too. You can do both sides for probably $50-75 bucks.
We sell GM ones, but we can get you the other ones as well :) |
I'm happy with the one I bought from Oreilys.
|
the car has about every option you could get.
some stuff lasts longer but all in all they are a real fun ride. |
Windows will have to wait now. The fuel pump went out yesterday and thats gonna hurt the old wallet a bit.
|
Ive had alot of fuel pump problems(not just 4th gens) from the gasahol crap and cars that sit for extended periods. that said,on beater 4th gens(yours not included) I cut an access panel to replace and it then turns into a 30 min job.

agree I ve done this to hardtops only
I used a wrecked parts car I have to explore where to cut. really trying to understand why GM didnt do this like they have on some other models. FYI last pump I replaced was $25 with lifetime warranty. Im sure a dealer wants at least $800 to replace |
