68 Lemans Transmission ID
Gave my son a 68 LeMans I bought a few years back and need to get it road worthy. Truth is I have yet to even crawl under the car. What automatic transmission is in a 68 Lemans, 350, shifter on the column? And what is a direct replacement?
Thanks Shawn |
Easy if it's original.
Look on the shifter read out. If it has 3 speeds on it - D, S, L it's a 350 Turbohydromatic If it has 2 speeds on it - D, L then it's a 2 speed tranny, (Tempestorque?) Anyway, if it's a 2 speed, a TH350 should bolt in easy enough, other than the column shifter would need changed. A TH400 could bolt in but the driveshaft would have to be shortened or changed to a TH400 one. Also, the crossmember will probably need changed, along with the column shifter. :) |
2-speed is officially the ST300, not a powerglide - there are no interchangeable parts between the two! :)

THM 350 was not introduced until 1969, so if it does have one, someone added it and if they did, thank them! If it is the original ST-300 2 speed, the THM 350 is a direct bolt-in.
