Which V8
 

I came across a 67 convertible for sale local to me. It's pretty rough and does not have the original engine or auto trans.

Other than the Build Sheet or a PHS package is there any way to determine which V8 engine this car originally came with?

I have the VIN and Trim Tag codes.

That was one of the many sites I had checked but from what I can see the VIN will only distinguish between 6 and 8 cyl. engines.

If "3f" is on the trim tag, then the car was a 400. Other than that and the code for i6, that's about it. If it is a v8 code and does not have the 3f, then it would be a 326. This only applies to '67 model year.

Well no 3F on the tag. The tag looks like this.

From what I can gather,

Standard Parchment int.
Buckets w/o headrest
Reg. Red with Ivory top

Not sure what the W2W designates. Does anyone know?

The W in the first group represents:

W = Tinted Glass Windshield

The 2 W is for the PowerGlide transmission. The 2 denotes that it is Group 2.

W = 2-Speed Automatic Tranny

Sounds like someone already got rid of the 326/st300 for you, which I would say is a good thing.

The original engine and trans not the only thing they got rid of. Most of the interior is gone, all of front sheet-metal is off but he has another front clip for it.

The engine in there now is a 69 350 with 47 heads (not sure if it will even turn) but it does have a nice thermoquad and interesting aluminum pontiac logo valve covers.

Funny! 69 350 with 47 heads is what currently resides in my 67.

If I could add to it, the car needs a 400 or larger Pontiac replacment engine. Do it the right way. If it's not a numbers-match small-bore engine, the correct way to get the most resale value is 400 or larger engine.
